I don't think he looks so much like a Lesser Baboon spider :hmz: He looks like one of the Spurred Trapdoor Spiders (family idiopidae). The size fits as these can get very big.

Well, one reason for the smaller abdomen could be that it is a male. particularly a young male that has recently sloughed its skin for the last time and not yet had a meal. That could have something to do with what it was doing, wandering around. Maybe it needs to establish new digs. (Just guessing!)
