green dung beetle

Unread post by arks » Thu Jul 19, 2012 7:02 pm

All the dung beetles that I've seen have been black, so I was most intrigued by this irridencent green one. Can anyone tell me why it's green? Is it s different species? Or .... :hmz:

See inside the gate of the walkway to Maloutswa hide, Mapungubwe, in April 2012.

It is probably the Small green dung beetle (Gymnopleurus humanus) or the Green dung beetle (Garreta nitens).
Imberbe = Combretum imberbe = Leadwood = Hardekool = The spirit of the Wildernis!
