Hi Goronta

Your colourful bug is a moth.

It looks like an Oriental Bee Hawk (Cephonodes Hylas)

Nice pic. Well done.

The first photo is that of a 'ant lion".

I will try look up the other one once I get home and get my hands on my reference books

Can anyone help with an ID for these two moths? Not good photos, but the best that I could manage. Seen at/in my rondavel at Olifants in mid-April 2016.

Shame Arks, nobody wants to help you out with the moth ID! If you're still interested, the first one is a "Cream-striped Owl", Cyligramma Latona. I'm stymied by the second - unfortunately my moth book is not too comprehensive.
