On my last couple of trips I've taken units with a kitchenette and bathroom.
Towels,soap and toiletpaper are provided. Changed daily if you wish so, but preferably not, we need to conserve as much water possible.

Units with cooking facilities vary as some have hotplates and sinks and some only have sinks. The ones I used all had hotplates. Units with kitchenettes include the following: (electric sometimes) kettle, crockery & cutlery (set of four: plates, side plates, pudding bowls, glasses, cups & saucers, knives & forks, spoons and teaspoons), 2 pots and frying pan, salad bowl, bread knife, tin opener, water jug and braaitongs.

I think that's all of it. If anything is short you can just report it to reception and they will try to replace it as quickly as possible.

BUSHBRO this answer is more to help others also wondering what the accomodation has , as you say you will be prepared .

The communal kitchen blocks have sinks for washing up , 2 plate stoves for cooking side dishes etc and a boiling water dispenser ( you can fetch boiling water in a thermos flask ) to make beverages . Always one close to your bungalow and a great place to talk to other people about who saw what.

All bungalows have braais - supply your own wood/charcoal
firelighters , matches and tongs (or use a fork etc) .

Some bungalows have own kitchenettes usualy with utensils .
You can hire utensil sets at reception offices but it is a "schlep" and you must hand them in next morning which wastes game viewing time. It is worthwhile having your own set
You definatly need your own utensils at picnic spots so in my opinion take a set with. You can buy them in hypermarkets cheaply.

Picnic spots all have skottel braais for hire and this tradition (bush-breakfast) should not be missed. They also have basic kitchen wash-ups etc. Invariably these attendants would like to do your washing up for a fair consideration .

The most important appliance is the fridge to keep food fresh and the drinks cold . Every single accomodation unit (except Balule ) has one with a small deep freeze compatment .

The one piece of equipment all visitors should take is the humble coolbox . It is necessary to keep food cool between overnight camps , and also to have a supply of cool drinks at stopping (get-out) places . Buy one or two at hypermarkets when you get your utensils is my advice.

Otherwise the KNP has enough facilities including shops to supply your needs.

Utensils includes everything you would need in a kitchen - including dish washing soap and cloths etc.
If the bungalow has a kitchen it will be fully equipped.
You just have to bring your food, drinks, cooler box, clothes and towels for swimming.
I don't think paper towels are supplied but loo paper is.
I would take an extra roll of loo paper just in case there is none at the picninc sites.

Some bungalows (not the budget huts) have a communal kitchen, you will have to bring your own utensils.

Accessible accommodation for wheelchair users

From reading some of the posts on the topic of accessible wheelchair accommodation at the various camps in Kruger there appears to be confusion on what is available and how to book the accommodation. The term "accessible" is open to interpretation as to the level of accessibility provided.

The suitability of certain accessible units will depend on the extent of the disability of the wheelchair user. Some units are totally accessible, especially if the wheelchair user has a carer to assist. Other units are only suitable if the wheelchair user has a certain amount of independent mobility.

One of the best sources of information is" onclick=";return false; which is an approved site by SANParks. This website has photographs of accessible accommodation in most of the Kruger camps plus a description of the accommodation and facilities provided. The website also covers other National Parks.

In our many trips to the Kruger Park my wife has photographed the accessible accommodation and sent the photographs to Karin Coetzee for inclusion on the website" onclick=";return false;

It is essential that accessible accommodation is reserved in advance of arrival at a camp. Accessible accommodation units are reserved for wheelchair users until a few weeks before occupation, if these unit are not reserved then they are open for the general public to book.

Bookings for accessible accommodation must be made directly with the National Parks Board and cannot be made with any of the booking agents.

HI Mites

Just a quick question about the power supply at camp sites. Hope someone can help.Does one need to plug a special adapter into the power supply socket for us to be be able to use the electricity or do we just use the normal 2 pin plug and extension cord ?
And if an adapter is needed, where could I get one? I live in joburg.

I'll be visiting Kruger from Australia in a couple of months - I already have a standard South African adaptor and a range of others, I'm wondering if one of them might be compatible with your blue plug...

since you are a large family, I will recommend Bungalow - BG6 (nr 40) at Pretoriuskop. It consists of 2 bungalows with a large bathroom in the middle. It is very near the communal kitcken and also near the gate, restaurant and shop. Each of the bungalows has 3 beds and in one of them is a large fridge/freezer, and of course aircon in both.

We have been there in May again this year and if you drive around in the area, there is an abundance of animals - big 5 plus cheetah and wild dog and most of the other animals such as raptors, smaller birds, various species of antelopes, etc. You can also drive from there to any place in the South including Skukuza, Tshokwane, Orpen Dam, Mlondozi, lower Sabie and even Croc bridge in one day.

We stayed in one of the FU4D in Feb and I think we had # 110 and as far as I recall there were only the 2 of them, 109 and 110, the next door ones, from 111 up were the bigger units FF6DB even tho the map doesn't show those.
I remember they had a better view to the fence.
I was going to ask if we couldn't be moved to one of those until I peeped in the window, (it was empty!) :tongue: and saw they were different plus they have a much bigger veranda!

From the 'extra information' letter sent out with bookings..... One campsite can have up to 2 tents, or one caravan/trailer with side tent. Up to 6 people, with base rate 2 people, extra amount payable for each extra person up to total of 6. If there are 2 vehicles then you should pay extra for the second vehicle too.

Less than 3 weeks until we fly to SA :D and then 5 days till Kruger!
And i have yet another question that i hope you guys may be able to answer.
Do international visitors need to bring their passports for entry into the park? I'd rather we left such important documents at my parent's house if possible.
We've paid the conservation fees when we booked our accommodation, which includes the charges for international visitors. So i wasn't sure if we need proof that she is a foriegner (Norway doesn't have any sort of ID card).

You will need the passport that you used to book the accommodation, to prove you are who you say you are.

Ngiri, if they stipulate utensils, they are fairly basic but will include some heavy pots and a frying pan, so unless you particularly want to use your own I wouldn't worry.
There are cups/mugs, plates, glasses, cutlery, a plastic/glass bowl etc.
What I have found lacking is steak knives and always take my own set.
A bottle opener/can opener is also sometimes a bit hit and miss so we carry all those in our basic kit just to be safe, but more often than not we find they are supplied.

I think this question has been asked before but I cannot find it :doh: when staying in accommodation that has a kitchen must I do the dishes or do I leave a tip for the cleaning lady/gent that comes and makes the beds/change towels? When staying in Berg en Dal last December I left money next to the dishcloth and dish liquid bottle every morning, the cleaning lady stopped me one afternoon and asked me if that was a Christmas present?? So in other words is washing of the dishes part of the cleaning staff duties or should we leave a tip if we want them to be done?
