Does anyone know which camps have a freezer for the use by campers currently?

Hi s2000, I might be off mark here, but my experience has been that it is only those camps that have no electricity. I have used freezers at Tzendze and Balule.

Thanks MM, I recall some camp having a freezer but can't for the life of me picture where it was or where in the camp it was situated, may have been Addo though, haven't camped for a few Years so had a Rondavel freezer.

Nabla, not sure where you are travelling from.

Any hut with communal kitchens will not have utensils. A thermos flask will be useful as boiling water urns are available in the communal kitchens and a thermos is a good way to take it back to your hut for tea/coffee. Also nice to have a cup on the road in the morning.

If your accommodation lists utensils, you will have crockery, cutlery, glasses and a selection of pots and pans (selection varies by camp). You will also have a kettle and hot plate. Talamati will have utensils etc.

We always take a small "picnic set" in our checked luggage as we cook breakfast at the picnic spots. We take the following:
Plastic plates and bowls (1/person)
Knife, fork, spoon (1/person)
Two sharp kitchen utility knives
Travel mugs
Spatula
Bendable plastic chopping board.
BBQ tongs
Dish cloths

All accommodation (except Punda Maria) has its own bbq.

The last time we visited in June, we took a couple of small, lightweight fleece throws. We did not need them in the accommodation but did use them in the early mornings in the car.

You can also buy paper plates etc at the camp shops for the nights you don't have utensils. We just prefer to take our own set as we tend to visit the picnic sites.

Have a wonderful visit. Remember to take a flashlight (torch) for use in camp at night.
Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better

Helouuu!

We are returning to South Africa next year July 2017, this will be our second trip to africa and i know how fast accommodation gets sold out

So I just checked the online booking system today, ( July 1 in Canada) for June 2017 of next year, and its all sold out with the exception of a few huts?? Is this possible? Am I seeing this correctly online?

I'm just worried when I will log on on August 1 that for July 2017 it will get sold out really fast too, unless I just sit there and keep refreshing my page every minute of the day into the wee hours of the night and even then don't know that I will be fast enough

I don't know how else to ensure we get bookings for July 2017, as June 2017 seems already all sold out and its been less then 24 its been open online thoughts???

Hi Julia, unfortunately the June and July months hit the school holidays.

I would suggest that you book what is available at the moment and change your bookings as more appropriate accommodation comes up. People often book as soon as they can and have to cancel, or change. Keep looking, particularly when the deposit time comes around. It is amazing how many bookings become available during this period.

If you were looking before midnight SA time then that is what I expect, they don't tend to open the online calendars until the online booking is opened, which would be on the 2nd.

I've just now been looking at June 2017 for myself and, apart from a few dates were Lower Sabie and Skukuza don't have much left, there is plenty of availability for June 2017, especially the earlier part of the month.

So on the 1st Aug I recommend that you either email reservations with your requirements (and any alternatives)so that your email arrives in the early hours of the morning on the 1st Aug or be ready on the phone for the lines opening at 07:30. Please bear in mind online booking will not open until 2nd August.

I am sure that this has been asked a million times before, but I have been looking all over the SANParks website and the forums and cannot find an answer.

Here is my question: How does one request refunds when modifications of online reservations resulted in overpayments to SANParks?

I have a bunch of reservations where I switched around dates and accommodations and activities, and ended up overpaying. Some of the overpayments were small and I don't mind giving those up to the park system, but a couple were substantial. How do I get that money back? I paid online using a credit card.

Thanks!
Nancy

Hi Nancy,

If you are at all interested in activities such as morning or night drives etc., you can use the money to book those activities, saves the extra hassles.
I tried that having never been on "out of daylight hours drives" and was very happy to have spent the credit in that way.

need advice from the experience folks here.

I reserved Kruger accomodations for June 2017 trip. From the time i booked a week ago, number of people going with me has increased to a total of 6. Some family so cant refuse.

4 of the 6 camps i booked have Base 4 Max 6. so i can pay the overage so no problems.

But Biyamiti max is 5 and Lower Sabie max is 4 in FU4V. Can you please suggest the best options i have. I could book a hut at L Sabie for the 2 people. But what to do with Biyamiti ? Is this a question of number of beds that can be put in ? If I dont need a bed, will bring sleeping bag, can this be accomodated ?

Thanks so much for your responses.

Hi ramrish

I see Biyamiti offers a max of 5 beds in those units. Is your party all adults?
I suggest you email the camp, both manager and duty manager, and explain your problem. They might say it is fine to add a mattress.

For Lower Sabie, have a look at other options as you suggest, either ad a hut, or swap to a guest house - depending what is available, and which you would prefer.

I made the extra reservation at Lower Sabie.

Will correspond with Biyamiti staff as mentioned.
