What to do with equipment we can't take home

Unread post by Espen » Tue Aug 18, 2015 4:34 pm

Me and my wife are visiting Kruger again next week, from Norway. It will be our 2nd time on a self drive, and we're really looking forward to it.
We haven't found a place to rent camping equipment, so we're planning on buying a cooler and maybe some other equipment we might need.

My question is what should we do with this equipment when we travel back home? We can't take it with us, and it would be nice if it could come to use for someone else one way or another. Any advice on what we could do?

Espen
We usually leave anything we can't take with us for the staff at the camp.
We always leave a signed note stating that we have left the items for the benefit of the staff and that they have not been stolen from us.
Have a wonderful trip

We stay every year for a month so we have a ton of stuff, everything from cutlery to crockery and mosquito nets to meat and leave it all to the cleaning staff, occasionally we leave high value items like bedding and booze (yes we take our own bedding) to staff that have been extra friendly or helpfull.

We usually bring a colapsable cooler, plates, utensils with us in our checked luggage (we cut back on clothes). If we have to purchase something then we leave it for staff at the last camp. There is always someone who can use it. You can always ask at camp if the rangers or anti-poaching guys could use items (probably not food items though) and leave it for them. I would think items like camping equipment, picnic items would be usefull for the guys who are on anti-poaching patrol.
