Hi all,

Thanks for your feed back everybody
Barb, we were there in 2014 and by the time we got to the shops, there wasn't a lot left on the shelves I'm afraid (gameviewing comes before eating with us )
Dankjewel Cécile, might just try your suggestion (if there i is a spar nearby, haven't had time to check is yet).
I'm sure we will have another fantastic experience in the Kruger in July

Hi Carla and Tony,
You must have been really unlucky, we were in the park for a month in 2014 and there were only a couple of occasions when selection was limited, and we did most of our shopping around gate closing time.
Barb.

Does anyone have experience with Loodt's butchery in Phalaborwa (think I have the correct name)? We usually buy meat from a butcher in JNB near my in-laws, but it would be more convenient to purchase in Phalaborwa this time. If someone could give me feedback, that would be great. We usually email an order prior to arriving.

Thanks in advance.

Crested Val has spent a lot of time in Phalaborwa and might know. If she doesn't reply to this, pm her and ask.

Sorry I have not heard of Loodt's.

The butchery we used closed down about a year ago, but did not have that name.

There was a good butchery near the Standard Bank in the main part of town, but I don't remember the name?

Woolworth's usually so quite good meat, but it is a small shop so runs out easily.

Spar has a good selection (they are very near the gate, not in the town) but I must admit their beef products steaks etc have sometimes been disappointing. Pork, gammon, lamb and chicken have always been good.

Hope that helps, and I hope that you have a wonderful visit.

Thanks a lot for posting this info.

We ordered in Malalane Spar some meat to start of with.

Since we will be later in Letaba, we sure will try this Spar , since it is not far from the Gate .

Thanks again :gflower: :gflower:

Thanks for the responses. I am ok with Woolies or Spar if we are a small group but we will be there for over 2 weeks and catering for 7 people for most of the time. We usually get a butchery to prepackage (vacuum pack) the meat according to our meal plan and then freeze it for us. That way it is easy to store and we just need to defrost the food we need for that day. I was hoping to find a good butcher in Phalaborwa who could do this. If not, we will use our usual guys in Johannesburg.

We do buy some stuff from Woolworths, PnP and Spar, just don't want to have to pack and freeze a bunch of meat on the first day.

Just over two month to go

I actually have heard of Loodt's Butchery and sure we have bought from them in the past and I think as Crested Val has said, it is the one near the Standard Bank http://www.worldofmeats.co.za/view/loods-butchery

I contacted the Spar in Phalaborwa for a pickup next week & I received a prompt reply. They ask for 3 days notice to vacuum pack & freeze. Juan is the butcher on site. PM me for his email.

They have the usual meats but no game available.

Is there a really good/recommended butchery between KMIA and Malelane gate? If so, what are your recommendations to buy there. If not we can get our meat at Spar in Malelane as usual.

The Malelane Spar sells great tasting biltong and dry wors.

Hello all!

I've read through the thread and am I right in assuming there isn't a butcher or store in Malelane that sells game meat? I love to experiment with foods and Malelane will be my closest gate to stock up outside the park.

Thank you!
