I presume you will have a hire car so you will need to pay a cross border fee to the hire company and get permission to enter Mozambique. You will need to have the documents with you at the border. I think you also need to pay some sort of insurance thing for the car on the Moz. side from memory?

Personally, I wouldn't bother with it. :?

Yup, you would need 3rd party insurance at R140 a pop and permission from the vehicle rental company.

We travelled through this gate December 2012 on route to Mozambique and back. Didn't see any game on Mozambique side at all. I would not bother going through the border post just for the day. We saw a large herd of cattle which held us up for ages!

Mozambique Day Visits?

Unread post by BrianA » Wed Nov 19, 2014 7:00 am

Day Visits to Mozambique via Giriyondo Border Post

In my planning for a camping trip next year I noticed a new picnic site near the border post.
That got me thinking whether a day visit was possible and if so what documentation would you need?

Some thoughts Please!
Brian

Warm welcome to the forum BrianA!

I see there is a response on the first page which answers your question if nothing has changed in the interim

The understanding being that if you came in through the South African side you will exit through South Africa again. However, if your intention is to come through South Africa and exit through Mozambique or the opposite you will definitely need to go through the customs system.

Also a topic on the Makhadzi Picnic Site which is the picnic site close to the border post.

Hope this all helps.

Hi ! I saw that you are italian like me, but I thinks it is right if here we write in english :)
We, my wife and me, crossed the border in june 2014, but we preferred to get our visa in Italy. There is in Rome the Mozambique Embassy, where you can send (and have back) you passport to have a Visa.
I don't know if it is easy to get a Visa for we european in Giryondo border, but I think it is better go there with your Visa ready  Of course the Visa is a little expensive (overall for a reliable delivery).
If you want you can send me a private email, so we can write italian and i can give you some advise or opinion.
Ciao ciao

We crossed the Giriyondo border at the 9th of March 2015.
Visas already were done in Austria; so sorry, not able to provide infos about that.
But the police at the border told us, no third party needed when you stay inside the park!
Beautiful landscape incl sand forrests and marula trees.
The 4x4 rule makes sense; hard to imagine to do this roads without.
Roads in bad condition. We had to cut branches all the way on the sand path which leads from the main road to Bingo trying not to scratch our rental car totally.
Rubbish at road sides...bottles and cans.
Locals use to speed inside the park; take care!
Sad to realize the effect of poaching still going on.
Just a few mammals to see after crossing the border, not even birds.
So if you expect more or less the same as it is in KNP, you are at the wrong place.
This park still needs lots of development to make it liveable and safe for animals.
