It is very hot but the wildlife is wel worth it.

I've never been camping in the Kruger, I would love to. As a boy we camped all the time on fishing trips wild coast.

Thats incredible a 5% difference with the silver covering! Thats honesly remarkable.

Is it not possible to pitch tent in the shade? Are most of the sites in the full sun because this wouldn't be nice.

Im not with you there......... "If it gets really hot, for us it is better to drive with aircon rather to try to sleep."

Do you drive around the camp? Or sit in the car in the camp at night with the air con going? Is this legal?

NO Rahter to try to sleep in the tent in the hottest part of day we have found it is better to drive around in the park looking for game with the aircon on.

Take a water spritz bottle too Wildkyker, and use it often, it does bring relief. And Woolies have a dear little desk fan at a good price that runs off USB, which one can connect to the car lighter port via a cellphone adaptor. Or go to Midas and get a good old fashioned fan that runs off 12V. We are taking a few little fans to try and keep a bit cooler.

We found a fan that is battery operated, and also folds flat (especially for our 2 nights at Balule)

I took a wet towel and put it over myself laying on the bed. The moving air from the fan altough warm, cooled down the towel and it actualy worked.

 Good plan. Wow camping at this time sounds like it takes some dedication. I sleep quite well in heat must be the G&T's

December 1999 at Shimuwini it was 42 degrees, 5 days in a row (it was measured by the camp manager) It was simply too hot to sleep inside, so I carried my bed outside and slept under the stars. One night I woke up and saw what looked like a hyena approaching me. I was too scared to move and just stared at this thing which had a fresh piece of Rooies on his menu. When this animal was about 2 metres from me, I saw that it was the resident buck which Frank Watts picked up in thye veld. What a relief it was

It gets veeeeery hot in December. A good couple of years ago we were in the huts in Shingwedzi over December. I swear I went without sleep for a week  because it was too hot to sleep at night. Took off all clothes, three fans and door open and it still felt like the air was burning your skin. I told hubby NEVER again in December without an aircon...

Now he is trying to convince me the caravan (also no aircon) would be ok. But at least I have now read all your handy tips, so maybe ... Thanks

The one thing that does work in the car is to switch the aircon on and set it to only blow on ur feet.. Makes a huge difference to the body temp and the windows stay open

Oh how I would happily go without sleep this coming week if only I could have been in the park ...

When we were in Kruger the first week of December we had pleasant mild to pleasantly warm temperatures all of the 6 days that we were in Kruger.

I guess Kruger might experience some sizzling temperatures now as it is high summer.
