Sad - but congrats to the majority of Rangers that try their best! You are putting your lives at risk every day to protect animals - wonder how many people would be willing to do that?

The Chief Executive Officer of South African National Parks Mr Fundisile Mketeni: “It is indeed sad and horrible to hear of one of our own has been arrested for rhino poaching related activities. These are the men that are tasked with leading the anti-poaching operations in the park. We however applaud our Field Rangers who effected the arrest as difficult as it was for them to arrest their superior. This is evidence of the commitment of our employees to the fight against poaching where "no favour nor fear" is their guiding principle in the war against this scourge. We are confident that with this calibre of men and women in our parks, we will win this fight.

How sad.

To the rest...

This added to the 2 arrested in the North recently ruin the good work I am sure the other rangers are doing. You can't let some put everyone under suspicion but how many more are at it and haven't been caught yet. :(

How many ranges are in the park in total ?
KNP - Sept 2013 - 5 Days
KNP - Sept 2014 - 7 Days
KNP - April 2015 - 7 Days
KNP - October 2015 - 10 Days
KNP - May 2016 - 10 Days

Hi all,

I am very much dissapointed about one of the people tasked with the management of wildlife in the Kruger National Park doing such criminal acts in our lovely park. i rest my case

Such a shame that even some rangers get seduced into poaching.
Must be a blow for the rangers to have to arrest their boss.

My sympathy and thoughts go out to them and I hope and trust that these 'good guys' will overcome.

Thank you all for looking after Paradise and keeping the 'locals' safe.
Hopefully you are all well rewarded.

Thanks again for all your efforts
Mike

These people are traitors at every level. They abused their position, they abused Sanparks and our trust. Dante assigned traitors to the lowest level of hell in his Divine Comedy. Personaly, I am saddened and enraged.

At the same time, I take my hat off to the many men and woman who put their lives at risk. They remain at the top of my personal hit parade. I hope this does not affect them too much. It must be very difficult to see one of their own, in particular a leader, betraying everyone in this way.

Die Beeld have already mentioned the names of the 2 low lives and their modus operandi.

When will SANP make an officially do the same?!

They have already appeared in the Bushbuckridge Magistrate's court. The state opposed bail and the matter was postponed to 4 August for a formal bail application.

The two are, Rodney Landela, regional ranger and Kenneth Motshotso, veterinarian from Skukuza. According to the Prosecutor, Landela signed for the .375 rifle that was used. Apparently he also tried to run away from he holding cells in Skukuza but was caught by other rangers and the police.

The most chilling revelation is that Rodney Landela was destined to be the future Head Ranger.

A man who "pretended" to be countering rhino poaching in the Park. Who used state of the art technology to "monitor" poaching activities.
A man who ran Pretoriuskop and Mopani sections where cases of poaching are unresolved.

I cannot even begin to imagine what Andrew Desmet, Richard Sowry, Don English and their teams must feel like after this.
