Was in the North of Kruger this weekend and the whole section from Pafuri down to Satara had buckets full of rain on Saturday night. Shingwedzi had at a guess between 60mm - 100mm on Saturday night, at one stage the camp was one big swimming pool with loads of ground water everywhere. The whole way down to Satara had a lot of standing water in the veld everywhere. Not enough I think the get the river flowing strong yet but I believe there is more to come.

That is good to hear. According to accuweather, there is a lot of rain coming on Friday.

Great news about the rains  Thanks to all those that have kept us posted.

Those culverts on the Mphongolo seem to be a continuous problem. We tried to pass that way on New Years Day of this year and had to turn around and go via the road to Sirheni.

Any news yet as to whether the Woodland Kingfishers have been heard, also other migrants and have Impalas started dropping their lambs yet.

Absolutly wonderful news. Great rainfall in the North. But what about the South. Somewhere I read that the Crocodile river has stopped flowing. Has there been any rainfall in the Soutern area? :hmz:

I would also like to know how long it would take for the birds to come after rains. The insects like (rysmiere) wil surely come out now. :hmz:

I think there has been some rain in the south as well, maybe not quite as much as the north.
Not sure what birds you are meaning?
The Woodland Woodpeckers will be there and many other summer migrants by now regardless.

Elsa, I had heard conflicting reports about the Woodies and migrants and the last that I read was that because of the lack of rain they had not been seen yet. I think it was on the Balule Bashers thread, but that was over a week/10 days ago now. I know that normally they would have been here long before now.

Oh gosh I hope not, sure I read somewhere just a few day ago that the woodies had arrived?
will have to keep our ears to the ground for further info.
but sure if they haven't yet appeared in the south it won't be long before their lovely call is heard ringing out all over.

Good rains predicted for this coming Friday/ Saturday across the Kruger.
Hopefully the rivers will start flowing properly.

The Woodies are definitely back, I heard and saw them last weekend all the way down from Shingwedzi to Skukuza.

It is so good to hear the great news of recent rainfall in the park.

Lets hold thumbs that the area does indeed receive the predicted rainfall this weekend.

Any mites in the park, please keep us posted!
