Two ZARP members were ex officio Rangers of the Sabi Game Reserve namely Isaac Cornelis Holtzhausen (1873 - 1966), served 1898 - 1899, and Paul Machiel Bester (1890 1952) also during 1898 -1899.
Bester was stationed at Nelspruit and Hotzhausen at Komatipoort.

Seems to be a relative easy one :hmz:

To assist Kol Stevenson Hamilton in his duties, the new Warden started appointing the first game rangers Captain E. G. (Gaza) Gray and Rupert Atmore.
They only lasted for a few months and they were replaced with Harry Wolhuter (August 1902) and Thomas Duke (December 1902).

Well done Grantmissy and gmlsmit

COMAIR started commercial flights to Skukuza on 1 February 1969 with DC 3 (Dakota aircraft) doing approximately 20 flights per month. The agreement with COMAIR was to conduct tours throuh the park and block reservation for the airline's passengers.

The service by COMAIR also included the delivery of air mail bags. Capt. Mc Farlane was the pilot of the flight transporting the first mail bag which was delivered to the Skukuza Postmaster Mr. Venter in 1969.

I remember my father telling me the wonderful experience of travelling in the slow but faithful Dakota, hearing the familiar drone while seeing the landscape pass down below and then the excitement of the pilot announcing that seat-belts have to be tightened as the approach to Skukuza airfield would commence in a few minutes . . . .

BA COMAIR was established on 27 October 1996.

The franchise route of amongst others to SKUKUZA was sold to SA Express on 1 November 1997.

If my sums are correct starting on 1 February 1969 and selling of the route on 1 November 1997 then equates to 28 years and 9 months or exactly 10500 days. :)

:) The date is correct  but the year was:

"On 1 February 1972 Commercial Airways commenced a daily air service from Johannesburg's Rand Airport to Skukuza" (source: Wikipedia)

I do not think Wikipedia is correct this time.

COMAIR applied to the Board in for a scheduled air service which was turned down by the Board in September 1968, they reapplied soon after and an agreement was reached due to the fact that COMAIR had a scheduled flight to Phalaborwa and had launched publicity campaigns to the benefit of the Kruger National Park.

My father definitely flew to Skukuza in the COMAIR Dakota late 1970.

The referred to post bag service also commenced late 1969.
