Hippo - 8 months

I'm assuming because their breeding season is linked to the dry season so that most births happen during the wettest time of the year.

 - you're right on the gestation length but I was looking for another answer as to why hippos can have a shorter gestation vs rhinos.

Phokojwe - you're it!

The reason that hippos have a shorter gestation is because their offspring don't have to be super precocious as they are in the water (get to float) and in a group - rhino calves have to run and follow mom on hard ground right away!

Why are old buffalo bulls referred to as 'dhaga boys'?

"A common term used...'daga boys' - pronounced 'dugger' which in the native Shona language means 'mud'. This term is usually used in referring to old Buffalo bulls, which are not part of a herd. They are named after the way they wallow in muddy waters and the large cakes of mud that get left on their skin".

Zebras and Wildebeest group together in open savanna environments with high chances of predation. This grouping strategy reduces the risk of being preyed on, because larger groups decrease each individual’s chance of being hunted, and predators are more easily seen in open areas.
Wildebeest can also listen in on the alarm calls of other species, and by doing so can reduce their risk.

Zebra and wildebeest are able to co-exist in harmony because, despite the fact that they eat the same type of grass, they each eats a different part of the plant.
