In 1993 when accompanying a friend who was doing a grass survey I was treated to one of many spiritually enriching experiences I have had in the Kruger . I was accompanied by him up this "koppie" to make sure there were no dangerous animals such as elephants or leopards or the like . Then he left me there alone for an hour while he worked nearby at times out of sight .

A view of the koppie from a high point on a tourist road some 10 km eastwards .

Who knows this "koppie" and from where the 2nd photo was taken ?

No , neither Shibavantsengele or Pretoriuskop area .
The photo of the koppie in the distance was taken looking in an easterly direction from a point along a public road between a picnic site and a large camp .
KNP is sacred. I am opposed to the modernisation of Kruger and from the depths of my soul long for the Kruger of yesteryear! 1000+km on foot in KNP incl 56 wild trails.200+ nights in the wildernessndloti-indigenous name for serval.

What waterhole takes its name from a nearby footpath used by refugees and illegal immigrants fleeing the civil war in Mozambique in the 1970's & 1980's? Ranger's patrolled the border and the law provided for 14 days of detention before the illegal immigrants were sent back across the border.

The late Guss Adendorff , KNP game ranger wrote in his book "Wild Company" about these water springs he visited up in the north in the 1950's and currently may be visited by those carrying a backpack and taking a stroll , where clear water bubbled out of the ground creating a marsh and where a platform was built in a tree from which one could observe the multitudes of game that was drawn there .
