 The thorns of what tree points robustly outward and forward while the other curves back and inwards in the opposite direction?

SeanP

“The thorns of the tree Ziziphus mucronata (Buffalo thorn) are spaced along the length of every branch in pairs. One of the pair points robustly outward and forward while the other curves back and inwards in the opposite direction. The Nguni African legend says the thorns tell us something about ourselves – that we must look ahead to the future…but we must never forget where we have come from.

Thank you for the info Philip! It so happens to be one of my favourite trees. Blue waxbills nest in this tree and I am a huge fan of birds. The often make their nests from drop seed grass.

I have another double whammy! Two tree names needed!

Name another tree with conspicuously forked spines that is a perennial favourite of blue waxbills...

And...

Location based question: One of my favourite trees grows here. The tar road approach to the Southern most Baobab. In addition to some lovely tall Apple Leafs and Jackalberries another large growing tree with dense dark evergreen canopy is found next to the road. Which one is it?

Have fun with these two!
