I play the flute and endure the screeching of the bagpipes here in Scotland quite regularly. I think that mopane is becoming a highly desirable wood to make instruments, it's certainly something I've heard on the grapevine.

The sap/gum of which tree is often used to stun fish when they are gathered together in pools?

Euphorbia cooperi and Euphorbia ingens are used locally to stun fish. Break off a branch, chuck it in a pool, and you can get some food.

You said tree, Tom, but I know that parts of the impala lily are also used to poison fish.
