The "main" road into the camp does pass directly in front of those huts, with the communal braai area across from them on the other side of the road. Punda doesn't get that much "traffic, but if you plan to spend time in camp during the day, it might be disturbing. For peace and quiet at Punda Maria, I would recommend that you rather book one of the safari tents, I'd recommend #3 or #2. Perhaps make that a special "treat" for your birthday?

I would agree that if having the through road directly in front of the BG2's is a problem for you then you book one of the safari tents which will be much quieter.
but still a charming camp with lots of the old look bungalows retained.

I can really recommend the Safari Tents as having just returned from a Kruger trip where we spent 5 days in No.5. The views were beautiful and the peace and quiet was special. Punda is a wonderful little camp with a charm all its own.
Here are some photos of our tent No.5.....(The walk from where you park your car is a bit far, but the views are beautiful...No.s 2 & 3 have a short walk, as do the others.

I hope you have a wonderful stay, wherever you decide to book.

Thank you Arks and Elsa,

This is a last minute booking, so only BG2 huts available for Easter weekend... My wife originally wanted to fly me to Vic Falls/Hwange or Zanzibar/Serengeti, but too expensive for short trip... lol

I suppose we will just have to spend most of the day in the park (we do that anyway!), and evenings should be better -- at least we shouldn't hear the air conditioners of our neighbours... looks like the back row of huts faces directly on the front row's aircons/geysers etc. which won't be much better anyway....

God bless,

Friedrich von Hörsten

Dear Friedrich von Hörsten

The layout of Punda is as follows:

There are two rows of units.

The front row no 1 to 12 are on the road. The occupants park in front of the units.

The second row 13 – 22 are on the first terrace. Guests park next to the units or on the second terrace.

The huts are historical dating from the 1930’s.

As a result the design is a unit with a very thick wall and a low roof.

The braai area is on the opposite side to prevent accidental fires and is one of the few places in Kruger where you can still meet strangers around the communal braai and develop new friendships.

The main road goes passed the front row of huts but there is not that much traffic.

The guest is welcome to contact us regarding unit allocations and if possible we can allocate the guest to the second row if this is a concern.

Please see attached photo’s

I hope this will be of help.

Regards
