The nearest gate to KMIA is either Numbi or Malelane. If you need to shop then I would say Malelane or pop into Hazyview and then yes, Phabeni or Paul Kruger gates would be best.
Want to say Thank You or Well Done to a fellow 'mite? Why not nominate them for a Kudu?

Shushin, there is also a good Topic Here with great advice on distances, gates etc from KMIA.

Depending on which gate you decide on, shopping can be done at the nearest centre.
Malelane gate, - Malelane Spar or P n Pay
Phabeni - Hazyview
Numbi - White River.

but more on shopping Here

Procedure at entry gates.

Unread post by meowburt » Fri Mar 28, 2014 2:07 am

We are visiting KNP for the first time in a few days time and have pre booked 6 nights accommodation . Am a bit unsure of the procedure at the entry gates, probably Phabeni in our case, - what is the procedure at the gate? Do you just drive through or is it necessary to 'book in' and if so how long would this procedure take?

Welcome to the forums meowburt!!!

Gates vary, but most gates have an office, so you park in the parking area, and go to the office, where you will be issued with a permit which you must carry at all times. Please read it from top to bottom, as it gives you all the park rules.
To do this you will need your reservation number and/or client number, and some gates also ask for your passport or ID doc if you are South African.

The gate guards will also want to look in your car, to check you don't have any poaching equipment etc.

I do hope that you have a wonderful trip.

Hi meowburt,

The process is not painful at all, but at Phabeni you have a good chance of landing up in a bit of a queue.
Phabeni these days are a drive through, so have a pen handy. An official will give you a shortish form to complete where you need to fill in the reservation number, so have that handy as well and the details of all passengers in the car, where they need to sign. To speed up the process all overnight visitors pay their conservation fees at the camp when they check in.
