One night at Satara I left my bungalow to throw away some things. As I returned from the bin I was thinking that it was kind of unwise to not bring a torch.

I swung around the edge of the porch wall and almost put my foot down on a honey badger! I hopped back on one foot and scrambled up onto the porch rail. The honey badger completely ignored me, finished his/her investigation of the kitchen and moved on to the next bungalow.

Some lions walking through the entrance gate to Satara. There was pandemonium. I remember all the kids who were playing, myself included, rushing towards the gate to see the excitement, hotly pursued by their parents yelling for them to come back, and the guards shouting and shooing the lions out and quickly shutting the gates. This was way back in the sixties!

I can recall several stories about snakes (black mamba in basin) at Tent 40 Tamboti  but cannot seem to find these.
Guess who has been allocated tent 40

Number 40 is amazing! Was there in August. Expect visitors... Baboons, Honey badgers etc. We put nothing in the bins - we disposed everything in the secure bin out the back - the visitors will still pop round the to check of course. We heard scampering at about 3am and then the bin was knocked over. It must have been a baboon.

Couple of years ago my wife and I camped next to the fence in Letaba next to the safari tents. I was braaiing one night around 8pm and suddenly heard chomping sounds in front of me. Grabbed the torch and about 10m away was a hippo mowing the veld. I think it was a bit miff when I shone the torch at it that it stopped eating and just stared at me. Suddenly it gave a small mock charge, I got such a big fright being 10m away from this gigantic animal that I fell backwards over the camping chair, all the while my delicious chicken and boerewors was sizzling on the braai. The hippo then just turned around and carried on chomping grass and slowly disappeared behind a bush. Luckily my wife was sleeping in the tent otherwise she would've insisted we leave Kruger that instant, she isn't much of a "brave a close encounter with a massive animal" type of person! ;-)

Lower Sabie : Seen leopard & lion from LS fence along with usual buff, hippo, ellies.
Hyenas and hippo next to fence. Baboons in camp.
Very interesting sighting was a pair of mating monitor lizards outside reception.

Skukuza : (In camp)genet, bush babies , duiker, whole troop of banded mangooses, bats

Bergendal : lots of genets in camp including one at kitchen window catching insects
attracted to light.

Satara : (in camp) honey badger , awc , civet

But perhaps most dramatic and exciting experience happened at
Ngwenya lodge 2 years ago.
3 adult lions (2 males & 1 female) were IN CAMP !!!

Two escaped back into KNP but got to see 1 big male that was
darted and returned to park.

They were walking around camp n were seen by guards at reception area
Need to get there soon !!!

Next year June we will stay 3 nights in Berg-en-Dal and Lower Sabie and 4 nights in Satara.
Does anyone know which are the best places in those camps to see special wildlife from the camp? Last year in 8 nights we only saw some ellies and one hyena.
