Hi Redgannet,

Warm welcome to the forum! :D

You can read about the building of Lake Panic here: LEST WE FORGET - Tertius Minnie
That is a wonderful thread, well worth a read from beginning to end. :)

Redgannet, a very warm welcome to you :D

I must say that the first time I saw a signpost to Lake Panic, I thought that I had misread the board. It has since become a "must visit". I am really looking forward to seeing the upgraded hide.

Was at Lake Panic on November 3.
Managed to spend about 30 minutes there (one day trip from Kruger gate to Tamboti).
Was great as per usual.
Got some nice :cam: Grey Heron (nesting), Goliath Heron, Black Crake, Village Weavers, Jacana, 3 species of Kingfisher, Red-breasted cuckoo (and quite a few others not posing for photographs).
The only drawback was the large gentlemen with the even larger lenses who were crowding the hide with no apparent intention of leaving (ever). Maybe it's a weekend thing. Previous visits to LP were not that crowded!
Latest lifers: Double-banded Courser, Temminck's Stint, Red-necked Phalarope, American Golden Plover. Yellwo-throated Sandgrouse, Whiskered Tern, Sandwich Tern, Knysna Woodpecker

Silly Lake Panic question

Unread post by VicRob » Sun Aug 24, 2014 11:14 am

Hello all

My other half and I are having a disagreement about Lake Panic.

Despite having spent so much time there, after seeing some of the photos taken there recently he is convinced there is a second place to view the lake from, as well as the main hide that we all hang out in.

Is it true, is there another road in?

Also we have been off the forums for various reasons for a while and have completely forgotten how to post photos. I know it been repeated many times but if anyone can post the instruction link again it would be very much appreciated. I have closed my Flickr account and need to find another way now.

Thanks in advance. :D :D

Hello VicRob :D
You can view the lake from the road. See Zypresse's post/photo :

Wow everyone thanks so much :D :D

So looks like next trip we will have to continue down the road to do more exploring. Just seeing some photos recently made us think there must be another view. It looks quite different from these angles, after being used to the 'intimacy' of the area we view from the hide.

Also thank you to Matthys for the link, will get back to uploading some photos again.

VicRob, I often took the drive to the nursery where one could also enjoy some great sightings and along the rod, one gets a view of Lake Panic, but again depending on the time of year as the bush could be lus, hence impact visibility. I have never been to the Golf course and is on my bucket list....anyone needing a ball spotter or caddy... :D
