Crocodile Bridge worth it?

Unread post by Dabchick » Wed Mar 22, 2017 12:50 pm

We usually grace the north with our presence  - Shingwedzi and Punda or Letaba and Satara... occasionally straying down to Lower Sabie. However, this time we need to be in the south for non-SANParks-related reasons. Only three nights  Our go-to southern camp, Lower Sabie, is of course booked out for the three nights, and strangely enough, I couldn't get the same accommodation for those three nights in a row in Skukuza either. Don't feel like doing Pretoriuskop this time, and we don't like Berg-and-Dal much. We also don't want to change accommodation or camps with only three nights in the park...

So... Crocodile Bridge has a BD3 bungalow available for those three nights, but now I'm worried that being right on the edge of the park is going to spoil the experience and the sightings... Are my concerns legit? How have you guys experienced Croc Bridge camp (accommodation, game and bird viewing)?

I was most pleasantly surprised when I spent three nights at Croc Bridge in April 2016. Altho you do occassionally hear sounds and see some lights from outside the park, I wasn't at all disturbed by it. I enjoyed the birds and warthog family in camp and a kudu family that appeared outside the fence. And you're spoiled for choice with good drives  . It's a small camp and quiet and has an excellent shop as well.

Have a great trip!

Take the booking :D now
I love the camp and have always had excellent animal and bird sightings in that area.
Isn't it just amazing how potatoes give us fries and vodka? :D The rest of the vegetables should get their act together :rtm:

I would ask for the huts along the perimeter fence There ae two in the inner circle and they face into the circle and ablutions and laundry so try to avoid those . But if you are staying three nights I would go for one that overlooks the river

We just recently stayed in # 10 and I can recommend that one as it gave views of the river and also the bush.
We had ellies grazing right outside the fence on our last night, really a special sighting to just sit on the dark veranda listening to them and watching them in the moonlight. 8)

You won't be disappointed Croc Bridge is a fantastic camp. We were there in march, saw Lions everyday with in 2 kilometers of the camp. On one day you could have spotted Lion, Cheetah and Wild Dog within 1.5 kilometers from camp.

Don't wait, Dabchick, call soon and request the house you prefer, otherwise it might be gone.

There are lots of good roads around the area, so I'm sure you will have a great time.

I can certainly vouch for Crocodile bridge being worth a visit, we've had some great sightings without going outside the gate there over the years we've visited. we have seen hyena, a bush baby and the elephants in the picture from our hut. As to the surrounding roads we have seen cheetah, rhino, lion etc. very close to camp.

It's a lovely little camp Dabchick, very well run with helpful pleasant staff.

The roads nearby (both tar and gravel) can be very productive for game, including predators.

I see you have booked, so all that is left to day is..........enjoy!!!!

Dabchick, nice to see you around again. 8)

Croc Bridge is really a special little camp. It has provided me with some of the best sightings. I love the S28 and all it has to offer. There is quite a diversity of eco zones in a relatively small area.

Enjoy  and let us know how things went.

Thanks hilda and Meandering Mouse! I've fallen out of the habit of checking the forums daily when I had a problem with very slow loading forum pages for a few weeks a year or so ago. But when I needed info, I remembered one of favourite web-places again:  Will be back more often
