Camping at Punda Maria

Unread post by Lennie Senior » Fri Jun 12, 2015 8:43 pm

Any news of camping lately at Punda Maria ?

- Are the two ablution blocks in excellent condition ?
- Any interesting activity at the waterhole close to the camp border ?
- Are the monkeys still pestering campers ?
- Is the little restaurant still run by SanParks or has it been sub-contracted out ?
- What is your impression of the condition of the surrounding roads ?
- Your experience of game activity in the area ?
- Any luck at Klopperfontein on the H1-8 or at the Klopperfontein waterhole on the S61 ?
- How are matters at Pafuri ?
- Any luck on the Mahoni drive close to the camp ?

Hi LS

Punda is always on our list when we go to Kruger .... we love it there.

- Are the two ablution blocks in excellent condition ?
Yes, well kept and clean.
- Any interesting activity at the waterhole close to the camp border ?
Yes, herds of ellies, buffalo ... the list goes on ... birds, bee-eaters feeding ... dependent on season obviously.
- Are the monkeys still pestering campers ?
Yes, lol.
- Is the little restaurant still run by SanParks or has it been sub-contracted out ?
It is run by Tindlovu, who run Berg en Dal, Mopani, and Shingwedzi restaurants. Still has that old world charm.
- What is your impression of the condition of the surrounding roads ?
Good condition.
- Your experience of game activity in the area ?
Herds of buffalo, ellies, at times good lion.
- Any luck at Klopperfontein on the H1-8 or at the Klopperfontein waterhole on the S61 ?
- How are matters at Pafuri ?
Wonderful, a must do.
- Any luck on the Mahoni drive close to the camp ?
A wonderful drive, some days good game, others just the lovely drive makes it special.

Lennie, one other point about camping at Punda. The electrical points are not at each site, but you have 6 plugs at a point. This can mean that an extra long extension is required. Other than than that, a great camping area with lots of shade and very nice ablutions.

Good point leevis - one needs at least a 50m extension cable.
