Hi Philly :yaya:

Very nice to have you posting on the forums

The Nossob and Satara webcams stay still - not moving around like the Orpen and Addo cams. This is because some people like the cams to move in for a closer view, and some don't - so by having two move and two stay still - it keeps everyone happy.

I hope this makes sense? Hope to see you on the forums more often

More web cams in KNP

Unread post by Kevdog777 » Thu May 12, 2011 11:46 am

Is it possible to have more web cams in Kruger Park? Like maybe one at Lower Sabie, or Skukuza, etc.

I truly miss Kruger Park, and the whole of SA!

Thanks!

Welcome Kev!

It is unfortunately not possible. The infrastructure doesn't allow it and is often down.
Aside from that it is quite an expensive feature... The server has to dish out about a Terabyte per month already.

Q & C

Unread post by Chickadee » Fri Aug 05, 2011 1:26 am

Can someone tell me why the Nossob cam always goes out at night? I'm pretty much assuming it is solar-related, but here in N. America when all the good stuff is going on in the evening/night, the camera is off. I am able to monitor the camera when it is sleepy time for saffies, but there is never any cam pix available. Always shut down.

Hi Chickadee!

All electric gadgets including the cam run on a generator at Nossob
And that generator is switched off at night.

You gotta go there yourself to see what going on at the waterhole at night.

Or check this for a taster.

For those driving to or from Orpen gate, you can see the waterhole and cam from the road.
I have made a little pano, but could not get out of the car (obviously) so it's not a very high one. It is too wide to place as an inline photo though, so I can only give it as a link.

Why is it you cannot bring the thumbnails on to screen by clicking on them just to enlarge them a little bit ?? alan55

Hi alan55 :D :D
It's great to see you on the forum and thanks for saving so many wonderful highlights for us :gflower:
Regarding your question about making the thumbnails larger :hmz:
I'm afraid I'm in the dark about that too, but I'm sure that one of our technologically-enlightened mites will be able to help you
Look forward to seeing you on the cams, Mel :D

Welcome to the forums!

I suppose you mean the ones at the bottom of the page?
They are intentionally small. They show the latest highlights so you can be alerted to happenings on the cams, but are not meant as fullsize photos.
The reason for that is easy. Clickable thumbnails are in fact loaded in full size, and shown small till clicked. That means that with every page requested the fullsize photos would be served by the server. And that means an amazing amount of traffic, which costs money. (10 million pages are served per month!)

More Webcams at Kruger National Park

Unread post by Cheree » Mon Dec 12, 2011 2:48 pm

Hello Forums

What do you think about the idea of more webcams at more waterholes in Kruger National Park. For instance at the lowersabie waterhole?

They can even put more webcams at the other national parks. I think that it would be interesting to see what is happening there.

What happens it the Poachers get caught on these webcams? :sniper:

I need some info please. :info:
