It rained over night here in Port Elizabeth as well and is clearing so it could clear in Addo later. You would be surprised what one can see in Addo in rainy weather. Enjoy your day. :)

Morning everyone :yaya:

We had a very exciting morning drive. The hyena was fantastic, plus we had spring hare and BBJ waiting for us at the side of the road - think we were the 1st car heading along to Harpoor today. :D

Coffee & packing to be done... then we'll head up to Carols Rest before travelling south through the park and back to PE

Well there we go... alas the Addo visit is over :(

The drive around and out the park was very quiet - I think the weather was keeping the animals mainly under cover. There was no sign of those great herds of elephant we had down at Harpoor yesterday. On the plus side, it looks like you managed to catch the closer sightings

We really were fortunate with our sightings in Addo this time around (4 of the big 5!!), but the park did feel quite sparsely populated with animals at times. I'm not sure if it was just the time of day we were driving round, the weather conditions or the fact that they have opened up the fences into the southern section. :hmz:

On the whole I think the phone webcam worked quite well, although it would have been great to be able to zoom in on some of the smaller critters. In areas of poor reception, I also had problems with images stacking up which were waiting to be uploaded... which I think is why sometimes people saw only half a picture or a red cross indicating there was a problem with the image.

Despite some issues, I'm really pleased that so many of you enjoyed watching live pictures coming from different areas of the park... hopefully you have a better idea of what the place looks like now

I'll try and post some photos of our highlights sometime soon :cam:

I've just about gone through and sorted my photos... but before posting a few of those, I thought I'd answer the questions which I didn't have time to look at whilst in the park...

Lionspoon wrote:Forgot to ask - Ronnie could it be that parts of Addo don't have cell coverage?

As Ronnie said, there are indeed areas of the park which don't have cell coverage. Particularly in areas in the southern section in the valleys between hills. This is probably why sometimes the uploaded images seemed a bit chopped off at the bottom!

I wonder if there was something in the bush,
I couldn't make out in this shot. :hmz:

This is where we had our first caracal sighting. It was walking along a track in the bushes on our right, but as soon as it heard our car it dived under cover of some thick bushes. We drove forwards to see if it came out the other side, but the sneaky feline ran across the road behind our car and into the bushes in this picture. By the time we had got back to where it crossed there was no sign of it :?

Look at that pile of cars!

Yes - lion generally attract a crowd in Addo, and this is the main north/south route through the southern section of the park. Anyway, these boys were enjoying the attention and as I mentioned, if any cars came close enough to them, they would stand up and give the back of the car a good whack with their paws as it went by! Do you think a lion scratch on a car increases its value? :hmz:
