I thought it looked a little like a small croc but then my hopes were dashed when the impala started drinking right next to it. :(

Wonder how many people at Nossob saw the lions. At 7 pm you are still on a game drive and at 6:53 all are out on a morning drive.

Just returned from Nossob and found the waterhole very quiet except for a leopard at 10 pm one day. Funny now I see there are lions at Nossob.

It is the first time that I have seen two birds together - are they a nesting pair or a new couple?!

What is the bird in the second picture?

Difficult to distinguish anything when zooming in....

I thought open bill at first, but impossible to confirm when zooming in.

I'm really not sure about this one...

SSJ - I just can't see the head being that of an SSJ
BBJ - Just wrong all round
Hyena- Too small
AWC - Too big

Small-spotted cat? Domestic cat?
Back from beautiful Botswana - a long time to wait, but KNP and KTP planned for 2016!

Hey Tom,

I was a bit unsure about that one as well. My gut feeling it's a SSJ with the light doing strange things with its head etc. But I also wondered about a young hyena? Or perhaps it could be a serval with spots blurred slightly by its movement?

Interesting ideas PJL

It's very true that the light can do strange things to these animals.

To me it looks like a medium sized cat, if I look at the shape of the head.....serval? or a young Hyena like Lionspoon has said....it seems to have spots so I don't think it's a SSJ.
Live life on the edge but be careful not to fall off!

The tails seems too long and bushy for a hyena, I think.
Also, a serval is slimmer and longer in its body.

I stick to SSJ - as PJL said, the lighting sometimes does funny things.
Plus the size of the animal looks like SSJ to me (as does the
tail as I mentioned on the other thread).

OK Lionspoon

I guess we'll never know for sure, but I'll go for SSJ too
