The swallow in flight is not the same, difficult to tell due to the fact that you can not see the head and underparts?

Thanks Ladybirder :gflower: But are the others house martins? As I don't have any other pix, the one in flight must remain a mystery.

Arks I do also think they are House Martins. Due to the white rumps, but not 100% sure

Both the rock martin and barn swallow show those white spots across the tail but the long trailing edges I would say barn swallow which technically should have emigrated but with the drought and warmer weather could be a late departing or over wintering bird. let see what the experts say.

Some more from me I'm afraid, again I have been through my books a couple of times but can't tie this one down. I spotted this on the deck at Lower Sabie in September 2013

This looks like a Southern Boubou to me Garyd73. Let's hear what the experts say.

Unread post by moose » Thu Jun 30, 2016 7:19 pm

Hi all - Trying to finish my journal before posting the trip online and a photo book. apologies if tis isnt the right thread.
I am not a birder: What is this little one (biyamiti sunrise drive), and this bigger duck/geese one (taken on olifants river walk). the latter, the guide was pretty excited and couldn't tell us then what it was, and the former, the guide didn't see it:

Thank you so much!

I saw another post elsewhere of someone who was looking for a Violet Backed Starling which reminded me of a sighting I had but couldn't identify but thought it might be this bird due to the colour. However it was quite far away so may not be possibly to identify.
