Gregor, your bird looks like a male African Stonechat. Also, ID queries are normally posted in one of the three "sticky" threads at the top of this page — this one would properly be posted under "Indentification Help - General Birds" — rather than with a separate post for each and every query :)

Hi Gregor

I am sure Arks is correct with the ID - going on the GISS - eh Arks!!

The best place is to add to the Identification Sticky and to say where and when you saw this birdie. That is what Arks was suggesting too.

The beauty of this thread is that it doesn't have to be in a SANPark for ident purposes and the three topics cover the birds ie Raptor, Miscellaneous and LBJ.

We have all posted pics under these threads and really appreciated the assitance that is forthcoming from the guys who are able to ident so easily.

Enjoy your birding!
Jackie

GP, my first guess would be female Common Stonechat. But will page around a bit tomorrow.

Immature stonechat ringed and in the hand just before release, probably male (the rufous chest is starting to show)

Juv Stonechat. All chat juvs look much different from the adults, mottled and full of spots. Nice shot!

Hi Wingman,

Looks like a Juvenile Stonechat. I'm unfamiliar with your other Juvenile chat's in that area, but it's somewhere for you to start looking from.

Hi all

This one could be a female African Stonechat, but being a relative beginner birder, this is a long shot!!
