Hi Granjan, this picture is certainly an African Stonechat, and it looks to be a female. As JvR has said that regional variations are important, so in this case the bird is just more greyish than buffy. There looks to be some orange on the flanks.

Hi all, I have trouble to ID a few birds. The pictures were taken at Rietvlei Dam Nature Reserve. May I please post it here for help.

Have a nice weekend.

We saw these birds during a visit to Rietvlei Dam Nature Reserve in Pretoria. For others these must be common birds but we struggle to ID them. Sorry, not the best pics :cam: .

Could you please help.

Hi rarheeder and Welcome! (I see that you've joined long ago but have rarely posted  )

I'll take a stab at your #3 & 4 birdies, which I think are female African stonechats, while I think your #1 is a male African stonechat.

Let's see what the fundis say!
RSA 2016
4,5 April Melville
6-19 April KNP: Croc Bridge, Olifants, Shingwedzi, Pafuri Border
20-24 April Mapungubwe: Leokwe
25 April-28 May Darling
29 May-19 June Cape Town

21 September-21 November Darling

seen at GGNP as well. It appeared to be a spotted flycatcher but now I am wondering about the buffy belly and mottled back
