Hi Anne-Marie,

I think your first bird is one of the weavers - Juvenile Red-headed Weaver perhaps? Not really experienced on young Weavers, so hope someone else can confirm or give correct ID on this one.

Hello there,

If anyone can confirm these sightings for me, it would be greatly appreciated! They were all seen in KNP in September 2009.

1. I think this may be 2 different species at least and I am not sure what they might be.

Heading out to LS next weekend and I desperately need to find this bogey bird, does anyone have some good tips for me on hotspots for them?

Hi DotDan,

I saw my first Red-headed weaver about 3 weeks ago travelling down to LS from Orpen via Talamati! Good luck.

We were in KNP this last weekend - and saw a lovley Red-headed Weaver pair building a nest at Afsaal Picnic Site.

The male:

It was quite difficult to get a good shot of him - he was in and out of the nest he was building all the time!

And his ever-present wife kept a good eye on the building project...

BushBuddies, where exactly in the picnic site did you locate them? Did you manage to find more than one pair?

Thanks!

DotDan - let me try and give a good expanation... :hmz: We only saw this one pair, but we weren't particularly looking for more. If you are standing on the "stoep" at Afsaal, with your back against the sightings board - looking out over the picnic area - these two were building their nest towards the right outer corner (between 1 and 2 O'clock position). Just before you get to the last tables next to the bush. Hope you will still find them there - I think your chances are good!

Identification Help - General Birds

Unread post by bondm » Sun Jun 12, 2011 1:06 pm

Here are a couple of pics I took in the park last Dec. if some of you experts could help me with. The first one was in Mopani camp near the swimming pool. I thought it was some kind of weaver but the bill doesn't seem 'thick' enough.

Thanks

I'd also think weaver for the first, but as to which ... :? Perhaps nonbreeding village weaver?
