Searching for the Oribi

Unread post by René » Tue Jul 07, 2015 10:18 am

Hello everybody, I am heading to Golden Gate from tomorrow and found myself wondering - has anybody ever seen an oribi in the park? Do they still exist? I have never seen such an antelope in my life and I am just curious if anybody else has, especially in the park. I understand that is the reason why the one loop in the park is called the Oribi loop? Does anybody have pics as evidence, or are they all gone?

Hi, as far as I know, they are still around. I'm sure that someone that has been there recently, should be able to help.

Enjoy it. :)

Hi René,

I think everybody is struggling to see this shy antelope, but if you have a look at the sixth picture in the trip report of Bushbuddies Here you will see proof of an oribi  .

Enjoy the trip and hope you also come across this illusive animal :D .

Hello Rene,

First of all, a warm welcome to the Forums! I have seen an oribi a few times whilst staying at the Golden Gate Highlands Mountain retreat.

Enjoy your trip to GGHNP! and do take many :cam:

Renè, although not so recent, but in December 2012 we visited the Golden Gate National Park and stayed in Glen Reenen camp. We saw quite a few Oribi’s from our bungalow and more of them whilst walking around. I think you have a good chance seeing them in Golden Gate. May you see many Oribi's during your visit  :cam:
