Karoo: Getting There

Unread post by pwven » Sun Aug 04, 2013 4:40 pm

I am in the Karoo National Park at present and want to travel Addo Elefant Park. What is the best road to travel? Have seen the shortest road is Beaofort West to Aberdeen to Klipplaat to Addo. Have never been on that road. Will appreciate any comments on this trip or alternatives.

How about the N12 to De rust then the very scenic route along the R341 to uniondale. then along the R62 through Joubertina , Karredouw , Humansdorp then turn up towards Uitenhage to Addo . Its quite a long trip but very beautiful and the road is not busy but in very good condition ( its took us from about 10.30 in the morning till 4pm in the afternoon so it really isn't that long

We travelled that way but in the other direction just a few months ago . At the moment it must be even better as the flowers are out
The route you suggest might be shorter but not nearly as beautiful

The road from Aberdeen to Kliplaat as far as I can see is a gravel ( dirt ) road

Thanks for the info, will consider this route as I do not want to travel on dirt roads.
