Seal island (Mossel Bay)

Unread post by Vasily » Tue Dec 13, 2016 12:46 pm

Hello,
I'm new on this great forum,
so I'm really sorry if the folder is incorrect!
My question is about a Seal island, located in Mossel Bay. I was trying to learn more about the island, but it's not too much info...
If this island part of the marine protected area of any park, please?
How can I get the permission to landing on the island, if needed?
I'm a foreigener, and my english is not so well, thank you.
Vasily

Warm welcome to the forum Vasily!

Mossel Bay and Seal Island is not part of a national park and therefore as this is a SANParks forum we cannot really give you any detailed info and anyone who does have such info should please do so by a private message.
but there are some of the national parks that can give you a wonderful experience if you are looking for whales and other marine animals plus a whole lot more. 8)

Have a look through the Index to Garden Route Parks

Hi, Elsa
and thank you very much for the replay!!

Just to be clear: my hobby is amateur radio and I'm member of RRC "Russian Robinson Club".
Our main interest is travelling to the islands all over the world. Among them are very remote ones in Arctic, Far East, Ocenia, e.t.c.
When on the island, we are set up a portable transmitting station and making "on air" contacts with the thousands people worldwide.
Ofcourse, we have an international licences. We are also in touch with the directions of the National Reserves and Parks, if the island located inside them.
Whey are giving us the written permission, we are making the web-site, where we providing a full information about the National reserve, wildlife, problems, e.t.c.

I'm interested to landing on the one of the islands of SAR. The main problem is the valid permission. I have no any ideas - do I need to take it or not,
and how to get it, if needed.
I'm also looking at the St Croix or Bird islands.
I really hope someone can help me on this and providing some info.

Hi,
Allmost two months I was trying to find the answers on my questions...
I was sent a dozen emails for different authorities, but absolutely no any replay ))))

Can I ask some question on this forum again...
Here is the St.Croix and Bird islands, which both are part of marine protected area of the Addo Elephant National Park.
Please, can you provide any information - where and how we can get a written permission to visit one of these islands for 3-4 days (with or without an overnight stay on the island)? Our group consist of 3 persons. We can give all the needed documents, radio licences, additional information e.t.c.
and pay all the needed fees.
I was sent an email to Addo Elephant park, using an adress from the website, but as usually no any replay...

Can somebody help me on this, please?

Thank you, Matthys
Yes, I was reading this document earlier...
In summary - landing on this islands is the subject for a permission from the Department of Environmental Affairs.
I was trying to contact both national and provincial offices by an emails - but no result!
Very strange situation - but all official emails does not work in SAR.
In my country everything works very easy - when you are asking a question, using an official emails or "contact us" form, you'll get the answer..
