Kgalagadi May weather

Unread post by mistral » Sun Aug 18, 2013 12:16 pm

We are wondering what the Kgalagadi weather will be like in May. Is rain likely? When does the rainy season usually end? Jerseys or shorts?

Hi Mistral,

The rainy season never ends, because it never started!!........ just joking!!!

In May you should not encounter rain, but nothing is guaranteed!!

We have a summer rainfall period, but we have had some good showers in April.

This year May we still had very hot days, but I would take some longs for early mornings and evenings. Maybe a short or two in case it gets hot during the day.

Many thanks for the most useful info. We usually go in September - prefer the cooler months.

Hi guys -

Could anyone give a more specific answer regarding day and night temps in the middle of May?

I know nothing can be predicted in the bush but just need a reference point since there is no electricity at some camps through the night.

Thanks

Hi Rainman,

Have a look here ......... Average Temperatures

In Upington May is usually our last bit of Summer. Normally minimum temps around 5 and max around 25.

Nice days where you might need a light jacket and evenings not freezing cold.

There can (and will) be times this will differ, if possible do take at least one very warm jacket you can put on incase the night temp is colder.

We have had water pipes and toothpaste freeze at Urikaruus in the middle of May, and two days prior to that 28 degree day time temperatures
Be prepared for both
