Ontlametse in Setwana which means Protector.

Leopard mom and subadult cub seen about 2km south of Cheleka waterhole on 18/6/13. Unfortunately they were on the far side of the river bed so the photos are heavily cropped and so of bad quality  ......if anyone can help with an ID it would be greatly appeciated!

@Jo - lovely sighting and thanx for posting! :gflower:
One old and one new! I believe you saw Tswana and her 'new' oldish cub. At what time in the day did you see them?
If you send the originals to AstroMatt, he will check them once he gets back from his KTP trip.

Brilliant news Jo :gflower:
@ Wanderw, you are 100% correct  it is indeed Tswana and a new cub. Her movements are very interesting as she is barely seen except for when she has grown up cubs!

So looking at the time lines, i think Tswana's last cubs split from her at the beginning of 2012. If she mated almost immediately then her next litter would have been born some time around April maybe May. So this would then make the cub you saw about a year or so old....which fits in nicely with them still being with mum. This is really quite interesting as its telling us about the breeding rate, and it looks pretty fast!

Kgalagadi Leopard identification

Unread post by AstroMatt » Thu Oct 10, 2013 10:13 am

Some updates on names.

Tswana's cub spotted by AFRICAT and Jo earlier this year has been named Ontlametse, this is a Setswana name for Protector.
