Maja means Mother of Jannie(Mamma de Jannie)

This post:Old Twee Rivieren Female - Maja

Next leopard - Known as the Twee Rivieren female(Maja):

She has a little 4 dot triangle above her left eye, as well as a line of dots from the outside corner of her eye down towards 4 o'clock. Also 2 blobs below her left eye - like an exaggerated eyelash!

We have seen her in the Aoub riverbed(Houmoed) as well as in the Nossob riverbed(10km TR sign).

Great idea for a thread :)

Just realised that the leopard I saw near TR on the Nossob road last year in May, is the same one I saw this year near Munro/ Hoemoed on the Aoub road a few days ago. And she now has a fairly large cub.
The first pic is from last year (about 8km) outside TR, and the next is from this November near Hoemoed on the Aoub. (19 km from TR)

And now............................., introducing her cub.

WOW! Peter!   Stunning pics! Thank you for an absolutely awesome pic of the cub as well! Do you perhaps have side-on pics of the cub's face also? I agree with AfricanDreams - I think you and AD saw the same leopard - your last pic!

Edited: peterpiper's first post on page 1 - Maja , and Jannie ..

Now does anybody have good pics of the Urikariuus leopard(s)? Apparently there is a male and female!

I agree that Peterpiper's first two pics are a definite match, and also match this pic of mom and cub taken in Aug 07 some 6km's from TR.
Image

The cub is also a match, but from PP's photo it has grown a bit since Aug.
Image

Amazing that this little one has entertained us since March :P

Seems like this TR female is a real show off , did she grow up getting used to the higher amount of vehicles in the area that she is so comfy around visitors ?

Some more pics of the TR pair taken at saamevloieng -

I may have seen the male the day before , but it was far off on top of a ridge , but I will try get a photo on just now (It could be the female also)

Kgalagadi TFP - thanx for your input! Great to have you back with us!

peterbee and bucky - awesome pics!

bucky - you mention what a showoff the TR female(Maja) is. Well, this last visit, even before she got close, I knew that it was her, because of her 'atitude'. She doesn't worry about cars at all, the cub(Jannie) was hesitant and as for the Leeuwdril male, he was quite skitsy - he got a fright near a car in front of us and charged back away from the road for about 100 metres. I got the impression that he would have stayed back on the dunes if it was not for Maja.

Great news Forumites! KTP has 2 new leopards! This pic was taken by Marion and Roger Thompson, near Houmoed - leopards seen on the 19th and 20th September! I believe this is the TR female(Maja) with 2 new cubs!

Hi Pika, here are the comparison pics I used (mine in Jan 2010 and Peterpiper in 2006)

I agree she seems a bit heavy, but she is lactating, so is this maybe the reason?

It looks like a match to me ?

Hello :D
A bit embarrassing posting these pics after seeing the quality of peterbees and Peterpipers :redface:Zoomed and cropped drastically to get a better view of the spots. Am I correct that this is Maja?
We saw her now at the beginning of March with her 2 cubs

Peter, no doubt about it, this is definitely Maja... she looked very young in 2006 :D !
I assume she was born in 2005, maybe 2004? Anybody knows?

Dreamer, Maja doesn't have such deep notches in her right ear... but this is very interesting! Another Mom with 2 cubs  ! Where did you take these pics?

Dreamer, I think this is Maja, she does have a torn right ear, and the markings are the same. She has two cubs, which I did not see. If you saw her in the TR area, then its definite.

Image

Nothing to be embarassed about, Dreamer  , you have a superb pic of Maja  . Now we wait for the photos of the two cubs please please

@Pikasso - we saw her in April 2006 for the first time(at the very same location where Dreamer saw her now). She was young. My guess is that she was born in 2004!
