Nossob Renovations 2015

Unread post by WishIwasthere » Sun Jan 18, 2015 7:55 am

Any help appreciated!
I am booking accommodation for a trip in oct-nov, the plan was at least 4 nights in Nossob. I see however that there will be renovations taking place this year.
Does anyone perhaps know how camping vs chalets will be affected? Would prefer to camp but have small kids so if it is likely to be very disrupted with regards to ablutions etc. I don't mind chalets.

Any advice will be greatly helpful

Should you require more information please shout.

Found this on the Wild Card Blog.
Sheds some light on the delay in starting construction.

Thanks enrico. That confirms what the chap in reception at Nossob told me last week - that there was a delay due to approval being sought. I had asked him what was going on, as there was no sign of any building work when we were there - and we had been rather anxious before the trip.

Regarding my previous post with the link to the Wild Card Blog.

I see that the link does not directly take you to the relevant blog entry which discusses the Nossob renovations.
Please see the entries dated 20th April a page or two back on the blog and you will find the relevant article.

My apologies, but being one of the BBC generation anything to do with computers is rocket science to me.
Perhaps someone with more savvy can insert the correct link, for those interested.

Hi all,

I was hoping to visit Nossob to camp for a couple of nights in the first week of November but see that it's blocked out as unavailable from September to mid-November - does anyone know if this is because of the planned renovations? If it is, are they now confirmed as happening during that time or could this change and the campsite become available?

Pretty gutted that there isn't availability as I'm travelling from the UK and bringing my partner in the hope of showing him what an amazing area Nossob is for wildlife - have had some epic sightings of lions etc in that area before. If Nossob isn't available, does anyone have any suggestions for other places at that end of the park that are also good in terms of wildlife and camping?

Thanks!

I would have thought that the lack of availability is due to the relatively short notice, at a really popular time of year. Bookings open 11 months in advance.....

There seems to be plenty of availability at Mata Mata and Twee Riverien - is Nossob a massively more popular site? Is it the holiday period during November?

November is not quite school holiday time here.

I would grab what you can at MataMata and Tweerivieren. From those camps you can cover a large part of the park. If something comes up at Nossob (keep checking the availability), then swap from one of the other camps.

I assume you want to camp. Otherwise, keep an eye open for cancellations at any of the Wilderness Camps - they are very popular, but for good reason - they are wonderful!
