Wine and beer in Twee Riveren

Unread post by judik » Sat Sep 17, 2016 3:15 pm

Even though I have been planning this trip since late Dec,I just realized that we will be flying into Upington and then on to KTP on a Sunday
Disaster!
Well not really since we are not alcoholic but we do enjoy a cold beer at sundown and a bottle of your your great wine
So what is the selection like in the store? I always bring what i need so haven't even really looked at it.Do they have Windhoek?
Thanks for any advice

Bad news judik! As far as I know, you will not be able to buy any alcoholic beverages in KTP on a Sunday. They are not allowed to sell wine, beer, etc., on a Sunday. I would suggest that you buy beer and wine for the Sunday evening before you enter KTP, and stock up for the rest of the period on Monday onwards.

As Hilda says, no alcohol may be sold in the Northern Cape on a Sunday - and that will include Upington.

Your only way round it might be to have your Sunday evening meal at the restaurant at TR and have wine with your meal.

If you're flying in via an internal flight starting from USA via OT, why not
pick up some @ duty free

I wondered about that, inyanga1, but was not sure of the rules concerning liquids on domestic flights. I only carry booze on international flights!!!

I do hope you, judik, can make a plan and not have to have a "dry" first night in KTP.

Sorry if my question was unclear.I am aware of your Sunday blue laws(that's what they call them in the states)
Just want to know what the selection is likeIn the shop I preorder my meat from a butcher that is a family member of the person I rent my 4x4 from and want to know if I should ask them to add some beer/wine to my order. If the selection is OK I won't bother
Duty free won't work since we pack light and won't have the room.Besides we're going to Botswana first

Hi Judik,

A nice selection of beer, last we visited in July they did have Windhoek

And some Orange River Wine Cellars wines to choose from.

I may be wrong, but I have never noticed an alcohol sales ban in any of the shops in KTP.
Could someone confirm this.

One more thing lion queen
Does the camp store sell Amarula or Wild African cream?
It would be a tragedy if not :P

I can confirm. NO alcohol sales in Northern Cape on Sundays, including Kgalagadi shops.

Note this is only on Sundays.

Actually everything worked out.The sister in law of the guy I rent my 4x4 from is the co- owner of the butchery. In addition to getting together my meat order she said she would not mind picking up some wine and beer and putting it with my order.Love the small town willingness to help people
