Just a few recent updates.

Tswana was seen at Kameelsleep on the 21st May 2014. She was reported to be looking like she was either pregnant or very well fed. From the photos there is certainly some signs that she might be pregnant but it is hard to tell. If you are visiting the Nossob area then keep your eyes open for her and possible dens.

Miera has also come back to the river, she was seen on 28th May 2014 between Montrose and Batulama.

We also had an exciting report of Rosa and Kham at Grootkolk on the 2nd June 2014. Kham has only been seen once before in 2011 and so now moves back into the current section of the guide...only the second time this has happened
They were reported to be mating several times over the course of a few days...for anyone visiting in approximately 4 months time...keep your eyes peeled

@GlynB...October would be around the time that i would expect the cubs to appear...if the mating was successful of course.
They typically spend around 6 weeks in the den after a 3 month gestation period. So from the start of June this would be October some time.

@umtali1...i hope you do too. The south has been rejuvenated by the appearance of Kabelo so all areas of the park are good again.

Another update on sightings:

!) A cub(size of a jackal) was seen at Montrose on 19 September at 15.45. It was a sad sighting as the cub was very thin and seemed to be injured. The cub has been named Tsholofelo - means 'Hope' in Tswana.

2) Tebogo - seen at Polentswa campsite on the 22 September at 18.55. He was very curious and even inspected the camp fire.

All for now! If you see some spots, please let us know and post.

Not strictly about leopards but its about the energetics of big cats.
Last week Gus and Margie Mills were part of a team who published a really exciting paper on the energetics of cheetah hunts, this was a comparative study to another research groups study on Pumas.
Here are a few links to both the article and various summaries. You might need a Science account to get hold of the full article but the Reuters summary is pretty good.
