Hi OomDaan!
Lovely sighting of Lotlatlana! When did you see her?
If you have time, could you please fill out the sightings form for the Leopard Project - you will find it in the link at the end of my post.
Many thanks for posting! :gflower:

A couple of quick sighting updates.

OomDaan's sighting of Lotlalana was on the 30/09/2013.

I've had a recent report of a young male leopard who's been seen between Rooiputs and Leeuwdril. He is a new leopard for the project. The sightings were on the 22nd and 23rd February 2014, both later in the afternoon.

Auchterlonie Female was also seen at Houmoed on the 21st February at 18:00. She was seen on her own.

Sightings have been very spares recently what with the long grass. :(

I had a report of Warona and her mum the Auchterlonie Female at KielieKrankie on the 10th March. Unfortunately I've not seen the photos yet but they were identified using the guide by Willem the camp attendant.

Hoping that we get some more sightings as we move towards April

So are we to believe your efforts aren't going to be sabotaged as Aat's have now been with the tuskers, under the new "Rule"??

If I may reply here, although not AstroMatt.

No, all his efforts are not going to be sabotaged because this is a registered SANParks project. AstroMatt worked through the correct channels and with SANParks on this project obtaining the correct permission right at the start including to use the forums for the purposes of the project.

Can you please clear up something for me DinkyBird.

Aat has been working on his project for many years. He was awarded a special Forum Award by SANParks for his work in 2010. He has continued working here which in my mind makes it approval by SANParks

From his response it appears he was not contacted about this change. Silence for over 3 years on a matter is approval but I may be wrong about that.

Just to reply to the comments here regarding this new rule and how it might effect the leopard identification thread and project

DinkyBird is correct that the project is an Officially registered Scientific Project and in addition to that I also sought permission (right away when I became involved with the thread) to use the forum to collect and use the data posted.
So the project and all participation on this thread will be unaffected by this new forum rule.

I cannot comment on the Tuskers issue as I do not know how things were run or set up.

I will say however that I think it is important for any project like these to seek to work with SANParks, and vice versa, SANParks should seek to work with individuals or groups wanting to help run or assist with projects like these.

I don't think this thread is the right place to continue any more discussion on this topic.
Lets keep it full of spots :)

Hi AstroMatt,

It has been really great working with you as it was with Aat. Since I am not worthy of a reply from DinkyBird, can you please remove all my photos from your leopard guide and please do not use any of my cheetah photos in the new guide you working on.

Please remove my Tsamma and AWC sighting from your website.

Thank You.

Dear Sharifa

I must apologise that I respected AstoMatt's request that the issue not be discussed here on this topic. I am also sorry that you are taking this drastic action - but it is your free choice to do this. However, why punish the project because of a personal issue with me?

If you refer to the topic where the discussion is happening, I did say the moderators will respond later today to the matters raised, yours will be included in that response, as will the any other questions and concerns raised by many other forum members that I have not yet responded to :D
