This book authored by Dr U de V Pienaar is about to be issued by the publisher. I will supply the web details for orders before the end of August. All orders must please be done via the website.

It is a MUST read for every supporter of this world famous park. Dr Pienaar spent 32 years of his life in Kruger and the last 5 years as Chief Executive of the Board in Pretoria.

The book is not a cold coverage of historical and scientific events. Instead it deals with human events over the period that can be described as the golden years in the parks' history. It is written in light tone and well illustrated by the authors' own collection of photographs.

Although Dr Pienaar retired in the early 90's, a significant portion of the work deals with the Kruger as visitors experienced it today, including controversial aspects such as the culling of elephant and the park being extended into neighbouring countries through the Transfrontier concept.

Honorary Rangers especially will find the book interesting reading. The author was known to be a great supporter and, in fact, the introducer of Honorary Rangers from its beginning until an association was formed. By way of an attachment the book spends a whole chapter on the good work done by Honorary Rangers over the years and the contribution they are still making in the reservation of this international heritage.

As with the authors first book dealing with the history of the park until the Stevenson-Hamilton era, and English additions of Goue Jare and Neem Uit Die Verlede is likely to appear in the foreseable future.

The price of the book is R627, excluding postage.

Only online.

Not an easy read, can get very "technical".

Not to be compared with the story telling style of Bruce Brydens book.

But contains good information and back ground for the KNP junkie ... like me!

I have been informed that the English version of this book will be available son.

I believe it will cost about R750.00 but for anyone who is really interested in the KNP history 1949 to about 1994 here you can read about how the KNP became what it is today. The Afrikaans version 670 pages of facts, pictures, maps photographs and facts.

Received my copy  , but have not started reading as yet...still busy with another book of the history of Kruger.

One of the interesting features of this book is that it make reference to all the Game Rangers of the past and one can now related the era in which each of the Game Rangers that have written a book to i.e. Harry Wolhuter, 1900's, Gus Adendorf 1950's, Bruce Bryden 1970's and Kobus Kruger (Kobie's husband) 1980's etc.

So, cannot wait to start reading... 8)
