On our way back to the camp we see this buffalo.
It seems there had been a very good mud bath recently.

At noontime we are back at the camp, get somethink to drink at the shop and sit down at the waterhole.
Great to have so many elephants directly at the camp. :D

We return to our chalet to sit at the patio and watch elephants and kudus enjoying the fresh green of the bushes. :D

After a very relaxing time at our patio we are back at the game area.
Shortly after we enter the park we see more little ellies well observed by mum.

This afternoon Harpoor Dam is our destination again.
There are elephants, zebras and a big leopard tortoise.
As we watch a heron we detect the yellow mongoose, again in hunting mode the little fellow. :D

A car stops "Do not drive forward! :naughty: There is a tortoise right infront of your car."
We are surprised, watching the scene with the yellow mongoose we haven't noticed the big leopard tortoise hiding in front of our car.
So we reverse and let the tortoise walk away.

Suricates! First you can only see the guard then the rest of the family appears.

Digging contest!

Again a better overview is required.

Suddenly an elephant passes our car at the back.

Suricates in trouble ...

On our way back to the camp we take the loop to Domkrag Dam.
Close to the dam buffalos and their companions, the cattle egrets cross the road.

Image

Image

Buffalos in all sizes arrive.

Image

The plains are full with buffalos.

Before dinner we sit at the waterhole again.
I take my binoculars and have a look at the area.
This is what I see.

Image

I give the binos to SO.
This is what he sees.

A Blackie! Here?! 8) Never expected that.
We watch it more than half an hour walking behind bushes and reappearing at the other side.
It really comes very close.

During the night we have heavy rainfalls.
When we wake up in the morning and see it raining we decide to have a late breakfast.

Image

We are still at the restaurant when the morning game drive comes back.
Everybody of the passengers is rain-drenched.
At the ladies' toilet two young women attempt to dry bags, socks and the knees of their trousers
at the hand dryer.

Imagine we had a sunrise drive into the morning sun a day before. :D
And how lucky we were with our sightings !

As we enter the park we have a very quiet area.
We come across these very wet zebras.

Image

Wet raptors are waiting for prey.

Image

Image

A snail takes the chance to cross the road.

Image

Poor little jackal, wet all over and doesn't like the muddy area.

Image

Warthogs cross the road.

Image

What a rainy morning !

At Rooidam the Egyptian geese have the water only for them.

Image

Too wet for the elephants today, but it already stopped raining.
Not easy to get out of the water.

We decide to visit Domkrag Dam again.
Elands! Guess who are the companions?
Yes, the cattle egrets!

Image

Image

At the Domkrag Dam viewpoint we see many cars.
There is sure something special to see.

Look at these lazy hyenas!

The hyena turns the head.

Image

We see number four arriving at the dam.

Image

Image

At the other side of the dam you could see a very busy black backed jackal.
There is a kudu carcass attracting the attention.

Hyena approaching!
All the visitors at the viewpoint are fascinated by the hyena at the dam.
Nobody watches the area behind us.
When one of the hyenas disappears into the bush
there is no idea that it is approaching us at the viewpoint.
It is curious about what makes the noise at the hill.
But when a woman is shouting everybody turns around and it runs away quickly.
All I get is this picture of the disappearing hyena on the road towards Domkrag Dam viewpoint.
