Indeed, we stayed more than one hour with him, just us, no other car... It was intimate, special, unforgettable!

It was great to see how the hippos simply avoided the elephant!

Coming back to the TR, to finish the description of a great hour in Ratelpan.

Here is a detail of a hippo escaping from the owner of the savana.

Image

Look how the hippos were sleeping in graceful quietness before the elephant appeared to disrupt their good life.

Image

A hippo where it is more dangerous, submerged into water, easily disappearing under it to appear who knows where. This reminds me of the story of the tourist who was entering hippo pool (south KNP), with no ranger around, in order to take better pics. When a ranger appeared and told him how dangerous was what he was doing, he told that hippos always looked so nice, how could they be dangerous. The pic above shows how they seem to be smiling. Not really the case. It can be risky to be a nature tourist without the appropriate knowledge.

Image

In this pic, we can see some hippos with a Southern Red Bishop in the background

Image

Here the Southern Red Bishop with a Blacksmith Lapwing and a Yellow-Billed Stork in the same pic.

Image

Ratelpan was really very rich in fauna that day. We also saw there a African Spoonbill and a Nile Crocodile.

Image

And finally in the hide a nice Striped Skink gave us the honor of its presence.

Cheers
Charbel

Charbel,

Really very special and stunning pics of all.

Awesome to have got some with 2 and 3 different species in one shot.

Hippos for sure are to be wary of...Numerous people have been killed by them. :hmz:

Super :cam: of the Striped Skink.

The next picture with the Red Bishop, Lapwing and Yellow-billed Stork is equally special, as is the one with the Nile Crocodile and the beautiful Spoonbill!!

Dear Pumbaa, Hilda, and Trrrp-trrrrrrrr,
Thanks for the constant and supportive interest in the TR!
It was great to get all those pics in Ratelpan, often with many species in the same pic.

Cheers

I love your roving reptile shot of the skink. Always so Kruger. Quite a friendly looking little fellow. 8)
