Cooler night and feeling cooler today too.

When I unlocked the gate this morning a car was coming up ready to exit and its lights showed a ellie cow and calf on the road a short distance away. I unlocked the gate but did not open it until they moved off the road and I was sure they would not come into camp. Just before I opened the gate a bushbaby began jumping around outside the gate in the lights. The contrast in size and movements between bushbaby and ellies was very amusing!!!

I think it was more a case of which would be easier to get into/onto and be rescued from!

Tonight I did a sunset drive (after more than 6 hours at the gate this morning). It was a big 4 drive (no leopard), with good close sightings and near the end a herd of ellies with tiny babies followed by a lion (roared) and then 2 lionesses and 3 cubs. Also a white-tailed mongoose which posed very nicely. Guests very pleased and one lady gave me a big hug as she said goodbye.

Then got back to camp to find out an ellie had walked through the fence near the gate, and eventually walked out through the gate (which was closed at that point!).

If you were so impolite to keep the gate closed, no wonder the ellie decided to walk through the fence and then over the gate

Nice night drive EJ, pity about the leopard but I am sure it was lurking there somewhere in the shadows! Those (un)welcome ellies sure can make a big fuss when they feel uhm locked out of camp

Great sightings on the sunset drive EJ! Sorry that you missed the Leopard!

It seems that nothing will stop that Ellie from where he wants to go! :D
