Ernst van Jaarsveld from Kirstenbosch identified it as Helichrysum dasyanthum. I am not going to argue with him :-)

I wonder if I could have some help with the ID of this plant seen near Olifantsbad Pan in December of last year....in fact we saw it all over the park, but not many were in flower. They were quite distinctive with those broad strap leaves.

Many thanks.

Hi Tessa G,

It's called Brunsvigia radulosa.

Sorry Tessa G,

I think I might be wrong on that one, it's an Ammocharis coranica and not a Brunsvigia radulosa.

Bright red Addo plant

Unread post by SAMisty » Thu Mar 23, 2017 11:09 am

There is a large shrub (?) in flower in Addo at present (March) with the brightest, most spectacular red flowers which seem to resemble an Erythrina? Sadly my photos of them are too blurred to be of help. Shrubs (possibly small trees) did not seem to have many leaves. Can anyone give me an idea of what they may be please and/or post a clear photo?

Thinking of some for my garden if I can find sufficient info.

I think it may be Schotia afra you are referring to.
