arks, I would say it's a Common Star Chestnut :hmz: perhaps.
Not 100% sure - maybe someone else could confirm.

Thanks Rosemary :gflower: I googled a bit and I think that you are 100% correct. There are no pix of those very distinctive pods in my tree book, so no wonder I couldn't ID it

Here's another tree that I'm hoping that someone can ID for me. I saw this one along the Mahonie Loop in KNP in early November 2014.

Consulted with my 'on hand expert'..... The tree looks like a Weeping Boerbean Schotia brachypetala, But looking at the pods.....there are different leaves near them, so it is likely there is a creeper in the tree. Would need clearer pics of the creeper to identify.

Thanks for the suggestion, EJ. However, when I googled, it looks like the weeping boerbean pods are quite different (shorter, flatter, and sometimes sickle shaped) from the long, skinny pods on this tree?

Unless you think that those pods belong to the creeper? Unfortunately I don't have any closer pix of the leaves .....

Sorry yes, meant the pods made us look closer and notice that there seemed to be different leaves present. They probably belong to the creeper.

Whoops! Looks like I never included the 'lightened' photo, so here it is

arks wrote:OK, I've cropped and lightened the photo of the pod(s), perhaps that helps with ID? And the tree itself is a weeping boerbean? Much thanks to you and your "on hand expert" for your help with this. Very interesting that the pods are a creeper and not the tree.

I actually took the photos for the rainy day atmosphere that day (all the different shades of green on the hillside), then zoomed in on the pods hoping that they would help to ID the foreground tree

Here are a couple more trees (I think that my 2nd & 3rd trees may be the same sort?) that I need ID help with, seen in November 2014 in central KNP.

1st tree, seen along the Timbavati (S39) road:

2nd tree, seen in Tamboti camp (tent #40):

3rd tree, also Tamboti camp (tent#40):

Will ask on Monday......the lightened photo had not helped much by the way with the previous query.

I am wondering about Senna petersiana for your first one, but leaves and flowers not too clear.

Thanks EJ. Unfortunately I didn't take any closer pix of the tree, but I've cropped in on the closer one ... does this help at all?

Can anyone help with an ID for the tree that this birdie is enjoying? Seen at Tamboti (next to tent #40) in November 2014.

A species in either Maytenus/Gymnosporia - sorry, no specific ID, I struggle with these genera!!
