WOW! I just clicked on this topic because it was about leopards (one of my favorites) I was delighted to see such awesome pictures! During my trip to KNP in Feb 2017 I almost left a bit disappointed because we didn't see a leopard. As we ventured on our last drive through the park we were lucky to receive a tip to where a young leopard was napping. We headed towards his location and looked for a couple hours... we were about to accept the fact that it wasn't in our cards to see one this time, until.......we spotted him napping in a tree!! Made the trip complete but made it harder for us to leave! I'm looking forward to hopefully seeing many more on my next visit! Here's my leopard picture contribution ------------>

Always check the trees when you are driving in the Kruger.

Very well spotted Leeukos, and very true! I think we have missed a lot of Leopard-in-the-tree sightings in the past! They are so very well camouflaged!

The past few days saw a large male leopard making it very easy to spot a leopard on the Satara-Orpen road after he killed a mother and baby impala and pulled them into trees right next to the road. This morning just past 5 we skipped the road block waiting for him to return only to find him sauntering down the H7 towards the trees towards us. This video was made by my brother, a non-forumite, who gave his permission for me to place it.

A bit of sad news: we've just heard that the large leopard often seen around the Paul Kruger gate area - who was known both as Mbavala or Vin Diesel - has been found dead in a nearby private reserve in Kruger. It is estimated he was 14 years old, which is a good age for a wild leopard to reach. RIP.

ManicWalker, here is an update from Ursula Celliers:

"DEATH OF A LEGEND
After establishing Vin Diesel was in a very poor condition, MPB put out a capture cage to catch him and to establish what was wrong with him. Once he was captured he was taken to Nelspruit for further examination. The vets then established that he was between 13 and 15 years old, his teeth were in very bad condition and the nerves were exposed. It was also found that he had TB. It was then decided to euthanize him because of his poor condition and to end any further suffering. It is a very sad occasion for all those who had seen (and wanted to see) him and a great loss to Sabie Park. However, there is talk that a young leopard has moved into his territory."
