NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE!

Unread post by szb001 » Thu Dec 20, 2012 5:58 pm

Last week (06 Dec) I entered Kruger through Croc Bridge Gate at approx 6:30 AM. 45 Mins later I had seen 4 of the big 5 with two seperate sightings of Leopard. We had not seen lion yet...

Slowly we began Making our way toward Lower Sabi on the S28 and i took a side road just shortly before DUKES Windmill I saw the most amazing sight.

Never in all my visits to Kruger have i seen something like this .

Hi.

WOW, that is an amazing sighting     ,

There was in fact a lot of sightings of Lions in tree recently which were also given on the Kruger Sightings app. It is surprising what the Lions are upto. I wonder what will happen to Leopards

They look so elegant, so full of confidence relaxing there. I bet it was a different scenario when they all got down from that tree. Lions look like a bunch of clowns when getting down from a tree. Unique picture indeed, thanks.

Wonderful sighting!

My SO and I were in Kruger at the same time. We missed this actual sighting but we heard people talking about it. Some were saying they saw it in the Satara area as well, very interesting. :hmz:

The lions in central Africa do it as was mentioned before. It's done to get away from the biting flies which do not fly that high off the ground. There seemed to be an increase of these flies this trip, as driving around with our vehicles windows open, we received several bites ourselves, which has not happened much in the past.

timbo wrote:apparently this pride has been doing it for years. One of the females started doing it when she was a youngster and has now passed it on to other females and the cubs

they known as the kahuma pride or something like that

the explanation is somewhere on the latest sightings kruger facebook page

I saw this pride about 1 km outside of Croc Bridge in December 2011, doing the same thing. They were all in a tree right next to the road and traffic was so hectic the rangers had to step in and restore order. Needless to say we only manage to get a very quick picture, but I will try and post it anyway.

I don’t think it was for comfort. The lioness changed positions the whole time.

To get away from the heat is a possibility.

Here are three more photos; I love the one where she is sitting.
