Sounds like another coalition like the mapago boys who cause absolute havoc in mala mala, sabi sabi and sabi sands and perhaps even in kruger for a bit.

6 male lions who controlled 3 or 4 prides and could be more

i think this coalition will split up over time, even the mapogos split eventually in 3 seperate unites, 3 in one, 2 in another and 1 by himself. they were eventually killed off by nomadic male coalitions
I try my best and that's what matters I hope.

Male lions on S28/H4-2 intersection

Unread post by garrow » Thu Jan 10, 2013 8:21 am

Hi

On the 17th December we found 3 big male lions and 1 lioness at the S28/H4-2 intersection on the Lower Sabie side. We also saw them again on the 20th at the same place. Would these lions be part of the Duke pride. I saw the Duke pride on a kill in October at Duke's waterhole and then there was only one male. In May I also saw the Duke pride at the intersection on the S28 where you turn off to Duke's windmill and then there were 2 males. Would these males that we saw on the 17th and 20th December be part of the Duke pride?

Well, was the one male you saw at the waterhole also one of the three you saw at the intersection? That should answer your question.

I don't see how anybody else can.

Thanks saraf for the link.

I was told about the siting on the 26th November, so it was obviously a different occasion. However a superb picture and next trip I will be looking in trees for lions as well as leopards. It could possibly be the same pride and obviously occurs on fairly regular occasions.

Thanks again. bondm UK

Very nice sighting and video
But , lets face it , this is not a dominant lion . He is quite thin , his coat is dull , his ribs and spine are showing , and he looks hungry . Probably outcast from a pride that was taken over by a dominant male . Those are rather plaintive roars from a lonely lion

MM, this pic was taken on 24th September 2010 , of a DOMINANT male roaring after showing three females that he's the boss . We were 10/15 meters away , and I can assure you , the earth shook !

Compare this guy's body-language ( and his well filled belly )

yes this is a dominant male, he is 1 of the 3 Toulon males that are dominant around Maroela Loop NE of Skukuza. He is the most dominant of the 3 and these 3 have been dominant males in southern Sabi Sands from mid 2009 thru early 2011 and then became dominant around Skukuza areas from mid/late 2011 until present. They are very handsome boys.
