I found cheetah a few times on the capricorn loop near Mopani

You have to include Redrocks and Kanniedood on your "to drive" list

We've seen lions stalking buffalo on the far bank of the river across the S50, 4 lionesses on the main road by the Jaoa waterhole and a serval on the main road just north of the bridge.

Further afield, we've been more successful with cheetah in the north than in the central and southern areas, with the count standing at 10. These were mainly around the Punda Maria area though.

But really right place right time!

Elsa - you are not a man by any chance ?
I had exactly the same sighting a couple of years ago, but I was in the car with a couple of gents. Forestgump does have an impressive pair of "moobs", but I don't think he goes by the name of Elsa.....

Jokes aside though - that is quite a coincidence.

I always find lion on the tar road north of Shing, and last year we watched a pride being chased around by a breeding herd of eles.

We have not seen many cats in the Shingwedzi area, but have seen some.

We had a fantastic brief leopard sighting all to ourselves on the Red Rocks road (S 52) and have also seen lions from that road. We also saw lions in the distance a short distance onto the Mphongolo Road (S 56). We have also seen lions on the main road going north and close to Punda Maria Camp.

All these sightings are months/years ago. Your best bet for recent information is to look at the sightings board in camp. Although the cats do move around, if they have recently made a kill, they sometimes stay in one place for a day or so.

Have a wonderful trip and I hope you see some cats!

Nooooo!
Wonder if it was the same day or maybe there's more cats in the area than we think! 8)

Well I was in Shingwedzi in March this year. It was very quiet, sightings-wise, except for the elephants. At one point from the restaurant I could see 20 elephants. 2 small family groups and 9, yes 9, bulls.

We also had the most amazing sunset. I couldn't capture it on film but I think the colours - vivid oranges, reds and blacks - will stay in my memory for years. It was also a full moon so

We didn't stay at Punda this time but visited a couple of times and also spent time at Crooks Corner, Pafuri and Klopperfontein. All quiet except for the elephants.

We were at Shingwedzi last weekend for a few nights and we had great sightings.

On the Sand road close to Bataleur we were privileged to spot two caracal in the road. We were the only ones there and we were able to watch them for about 10 mins before they moved off.

On the H1-7 late in the afternoon we spotted two leopard juveniles that were on the hunt. The smaller of the two took a bird out of a tree right next to the road. Was great to see. It always seems to happen that the best sightings occur at closing time!

Other things we saw in the area were
Hyena
Lots of Elephant
Buffalo
Pearl spotted owlet - Late afternoon at Babalala
Kudu
Waterbuck
Hippo
Nyala

We camped at Punda for four nights at the end of April/beginning of May this year and we had some great sightings.

On the Mahonie loop we saw Leopard on three separate occasions, twice on one game drive. We also saw four Cheetah near the H13-1/H1-8 intersection.

Punda and Shing - early Dec 2014 - wet cool and not much to see. Good biding
Punda and Shing - early Oct 2015 - dry, hot (very) and much better game viewing - Average birding.

Oct 2015 - Although very hot and no rain, it was obvious that there had been good rain a few weeks before , as there was a lovely flush of grass and some pans/wallows with water in. It looked decidedly "park like" Beautiful driving under the big trees (and low grass) on the red rocks roads and Mpongolo loop. (and mahoni and Pafuri) Lots of ellies and a pride of lion that moved from riverbed to riverbed (Shingwedzi to Mpongolo) . as always , nice buffs , kudu, Nyala etc. Lots of Zebs around klopperfontein.
