Our most special sighting still has to be our Caracal Kittens seen on the Mahonie Loop near Punda Maria in Feb this year.

20 terrapins attacking a croc and then the croc attacking back. And all of this was next to our car out of the water.
2 MALE lions acting like they were mating.

:D In June/July 2009 between the turn off to Berg en Dal and Afsaal, we saw what looked like a warthog with long wispy hair between an elephant cow's back and front legs! On closer inspection, we realised that it was a very "new" elephant calf which we spent quite a while watching, from fairly close, thanks to the relaxed young cow!
:D We also saw, near Biyamiti weir, an enormous elephant cow with twin calves.
Two very special sightings that I'll never forget.

On the 4th Jan we saw an otto on the lower water bridge behind Skukuza going up to Tshokwane. It dived into the river, climbed back on to the rocks, and then dived in again and then we lost it. This was a first for us. Has anyone else ever seen one?
Will try and follow instructions to post the picture.

We saw one in June last year in the Crocodile River and I know there have been several other sightings in the Sabie River at Lower Sabie and also from the high level bridge near Skukuza but if you have a look Here you can read about other sightings in the park, including a "bad" pic of the one we saw!

Although fortunate to have seen all of the Big 5 in the Park...I'm often the one looking along the bottom of the thickets and alongside the road for the smaller creatures and birds.

Amongst my best sightings are a baboon spider and juvenile martial eagle, as both I had never seen before.

Also exciting for me was last March/April trip where I happened upon the darting of one of the lionesses that had to be 'evicted' from the LS Camp. We saw her and noticed her groggy behavior, then she disappeared after the drugs wore in. We then watched the Sanparks officials come around the corner and load her into a vehicle, all in quick time. Watching this made me appreciate the speed, efficiency and utmost care they had for the animal as well as for the visitors themselves.

I visit the park since 1998 and twice a year since 2003 and my wife started going there from 1970 and then each year since 1989.I guess that I will never see everything I wants to see and that is why I will always return (to perhaps see that extrodinary animal or sighting)!!

Over the years I had some wonderful sightings, but the most unusual one was a pangolin (ietermago) that my wife and me spotted on the S107 on 28 April 2003 at 15H30 in the afternoon. It was moving right next to the road for about 3 minutes. As murphy's law work,we did not avail of digital camers at the time and the films of our cameras at the time were full,so no pics taken!I guess that our chances of seeing that again (even on a night drive) are very very slim!

Some really awesome sightings people! Would LOVE to see pangoline, otter and caracal in the KNP!

I have been going to Kruger since my first baby steps so I've seen alot and can't really recall special sightings (apart from the herd of Sable I saw near Pretoriuskop a good few years ago  )

However this is what I saw on my last trip in December 2010 that I thought was cool:

Hi All

I am new to the forums, and have been going to the KNP every chance I get for the past two years.
I am hooked! :D

On a recent trip myself and Samster had a suprising and unusual sighting of wild dogs. In the past two years we have been very lucky with wild dog sightings and have spotted various packs, but this was by far our memorable sighting.

The pack was running on the Doispane Road towards Phabeni gate and included two young pups which was a first for us. We followed them for about 2 kms and they came across a hyena den which also had small cubs. There was a small confrontation which already made the sighting amazing. The wild dogs continued past the den with hyenas following closely behind.

The dogs killed a young impala about 1km further up the road, the hyenas then rushed in and stole the kill. The dogs tried to retrieve the kill but seemed reluctant to get too physical- maybe due to the presence of their own pups.

This was truly amazing and the sounds during the confrontation were a once in a life time experience.
